Updated November 26, 2006 Giants Fall to Titans, 24-21 “We will be sick about this one forever.”
Thus was Tom Coughlin’s final summation of one of the most unfathomable and excruciating defeats in the Giants’ 82-year history. Leading 21-0 early in the fourth quarter, they surrendered 24 unanswered points and lost to the Tennessee Titans Sunday in LP Field, 24-21.
Eli Manning was twice intercepted by Pacman Jones in the quarter and the second pick set up Rob Bironas’ game-winning 49-yard field goal with six seconds remaining.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, this is the first time the Giants have ever owned a lead of at least 20 points in the fourth quarter and lost.
“It’s a terrible shock for everybody in the organization. For everybody,” Coughlin said. “There is no excuse, no sympathy, no nothing. We had the game well in hand, but we didn’t finish the game.”
Because they didn’t the Giants lost their third consecutive game and fell to 6-5, one game behind Dallas in the NFC East. The Cowboys visit Giants Stadium next Sunday. >>More
