Updated December 24, 2006 Instead of taking advantage of an opportunity to advance in the NFC postseason race, the Giants today played poorly across the board and lost to the New Orleans Saints, 30-7, in Giants Stadium. The 23-point margin of defeat was the Giants' largest in a home game since a 50-21 loss to Washington on Sept. 19, 1999. The Giants lost for the sixth time in seven games following a 6-2 start and fell to 7-8. They host their fourth consecutive home game and finished 3-5 in Giants Stadium for the second time in Tom Coughlin's three seasons as head coach. Yet, remarkably, the Giants are still in the playoff race. They play their season finale at Washington on Saturday night. A victory would give them an 8-8 record and a chance to enter postseason play with help. The Giants will also have a chance to make it at 7-9 if San Francisco loses to Arizona later today. The Giants did not snap the ball once in New Orleans territory. New Orleans, which clinched the NFC South last week, is 10-5. Rookies Reggie Bush and Marques Colston and veteran Deuce McAllister scored touchdowns and John Carney kicked three field goals for the Saints. The Giants' lone score was a 55-yard touchdown pass from Eli Manning to Plaxico Burress.
