Updated December 30, 2006 Giants Over Redskins, 34-28 Tiki Barber proved he wants to keep playing football by saving his best for what could have been his last game.
The Giants’ great running back all but assured his retirement will have to wait another week by playing his final game of the season, rushing for a career highs of 234 yards (a franchise record) and three touchdowns – including 50 and 55 yarders - as the Giants defeated the Washington Redskins Saturday night in FedEx Field, 34-28.
The victory improved the Giants’ record to 8-8, which is virtually certain to be good enough for then to earn the sixth and final playoff berth in the NFC. Barring an unlikely confluence of events on Sunday, the Giants will visit Philadelphia or Dallas for an NFC Wild Card Game next week. Their opponent will be determined by Sunday’s results. If the Eagles beat Atlanta, they will win the NFC East and the Giants will visit Lincoln Financial Field. If Philadelphia loses and Dallas defeats Detroit, the Giants will play in Texas Stadium.
