The Head Coach is in charge of the whole team, including all the coaches and players. He knows all the coaches and players by name and makes sure everyone is doing their job. Coughlin became the head coach of the Giants in 2004 after leaving the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he had worked for the Giants before. He was our assistant coach when we won Super Bowl XXV in 1990.
The Offensive Coordinator is the coach in charge of the whole offense. This includes the offensive coaches and the players. He decides which plays the offense is going to run.
The Offensive Line coach is in charge of the five guys that stand at the line of scrimmage to block for the quarterback and the ball carriers. The offensive line is usually made up of the center, two offensive guards, and two offensive tackles.
The Quarterbacks coach is in charge of the quarterback, making sure he knows what each play is and what he is supposed to do during a game. The current quarterbacks for the Giants are Eli Manning, Tim Hasselbeck and Jared Lorenzen.
The Running Backs coach teaches the running backs like Tiki Barber how to carry the football during offensive plays. Tiki Barber has the most career total yards in the history of the Giants!
The Tight Ends coach is in charge of tight ends such as Jeremy Shockey, making sure they know where to go on the field. Tight ends play on the offense as either a receiver or a blocker.
The Wide Receivers coach is in charge of all the players that catch passes from the quarterback. Plaxico Burress, Tim Carter, Amani Toomer, Sinorice Moss, and David Tyree are all receivers for the Giants.
The Offensive Quality Control coach evaluates the upcoming opponents. He scouts the defense of the other team and tries to figure out the best match-ups for the players.
The Defensive Coordinator is in charge of the whole defense. He knows all about the opponents plays so that he can decide what kind of defense to run. Tim Lewis, the defensive coordinator for the Giants, used to play cornerback for the Packers until 1986.
The Linebackers coach is in charge of the linebackers, who serve as the second line of defense against the other team. Lawrence Taylor used to play linebacker for the Giants, and has the second most number of sacks in NFL history.
The Secondary coaches train the secondary, which is made up of cornerbacks, safeties, and other defensive backs. These players’ job is to defend the pass. Corey Webster and Sam Madison are two of the cornerbacks that make up the secondary.
The Defensive Line coach controls the first line of defense against the offense. He coaches the biggest defensive players, including Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora.
The Defensive Quality Control coach evaluates the upcoming opponents. He scouts the opposing teams offense and makes a list of all the formations that they run.
The Special Teams Coordinator coaches all the players that are on the field during kick-offs, punts, field goals, and extra points. Jeff Feagles, the punter for the Giants, hasn’t missed a single game since he joined the NFL in 1988! That’s an NFL record!
The Strength and Conditioning coaches are in charge of keeping all the players healthy. They design the weightlifting and exercise programs for the player, help them prevent injuries, and keep them strong.
