3) The Giants seem to be stressing not running out of bounds when there are more yards to be gained, especially for running backs and returners. Brown is taking that to heart. It’s never full contact in practice, but when he runs up the sideline, he keeps angling in. He showed that with an impressive run today. Every yard counts.
4) It wasn’t just lip service when the Giants said they signed defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins because of his versatility. Over his 10 years, he’s played inside and outside in both 3-4 and 4-3 defenses. With Justin Tuck held out of practice as a precaution due to a “tight back,” the Giants used Jenkins extensively at defensive end in practice with Shaun Rogers, Linval Joseph and Mathias Kiwanuka also along the line. “He’s a tough guy to block no matter where he is,” head coach Tom Coughlin said about Jenkins after practice.
5) Wide receiver Julian Talley, who signed with the team six days ago, made a case for himself with a quality practice. He and Ryan Nassib found a rhythm, hooking up for a few long completions (and one sideline grab but he couldn’t keep both feet in bounds). Talley spent time in the Giants’ 2012 training camp before being released last August. He went on to play for the Pittsburgh Power in the Arena Football League, where he caught 74 passes in 10 games. Here is a story from last summer about him and fellow UMass product Victor Cruz.
