Analysts hand out draft grades

Posted Apr 28, 2012

The 2012 NFL draft is complete, and the top analysts graded the Giants' seven selections. Let us know how you think Big Blue did in the comments section below!

Draft Overview

Rd. 1, Pick 32 (32) RB David Wilson, Virginia Tech
Rd. 2, Pick 31 (63) WR Rueben Randle, LSU
Rd. 3, Pick 31 (94) CB Jayron Hosley, Virginia Tech
Rd. 4, Pick 32 (127) TE Adrien Robinson, Cincinnati
Rd. 4, Pick 36 (131) OT Brandon Mosley, Auburn
Rd. 6, Pick 31 (201) OT Matt McCants, UAB
Rd. 7, Pick 32 (239) DT Markus Kuhn, NC State

ESPN.com NFC East Blogger Dan Graziano wrote: “Nobody in this division does the draft better than the Giants, and it'll be worth remembering that the wide receiver (LSU's Rueben Randle) they picked at the end of the second round was a player they considered taking at the end of the first. Randle is a dynamic talent who now gets a chance to develop behind brilliant and selfless starting wideouts Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz and with the help of quarterback Eli Manning, who has an outstanding record of getting the best out of his receiving targets… The Giants managed to combine need picks and value picks at almost every turn in this draft, and their second-rounder may turn out to be their biggest prize."

Charles Davis said on NFL Network: “They are the champions of the National Football League, and they continue to add pieces even drafting late in the round – 32nd to be precise. David Wilson, I like the pick. The reason I like it, the Giants like to run the football. David Wilson is thought of as a flash guy, but guess what – he runs inside stronger than what people think.

“Rueben Randle lasted longer than we thought at wide receiver from LSU. He’s a big time producer for a team that runs the football and had inconsistent quarterback play down in the Bayou. He’ll be so happy to catch the football from Eli Manning.

“Jayron Hosley I think is a tough, gritty performer out on the corner, tackles well, understands how to play the game. He will help the Giants in the secondary. And Adrien Robertson, a project at tight end but a traditional-looking tight end – 265 pounds, puts his hand down, will block the line of scrimmage."

Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com said the Giants’ best pick was Randle and dubbed Mosley as the third-day gem.

“Fourth-round tackle Brandon Mosley from Auburn is a nice developmental choice,” Prisco wrote. “It might take this former defensive player a year or two to be in the mix, but he's worth a look. He is athletic.”

Sports Illustrated’s Tony Pauline also thought Randle was one of the bigger steals of the draft: "Randle received first-round consideration, yet slipped through the cracks after several teams reached for lesser-ranked wide outs. He's a great value who should quickly replace free agent departure Mario Manningham."
