The Giants signed CB Terrence Frederick off their practice squad and waived OL Selvish Capers

The Giants, who tomorrow face the Atlanta Falcons’ fourth-ranked passing attack, today bolstered their secondary by signing cornerback Terrence Frederick off their practice squad.

If he plays, Frederick will make his NFL debut. The Giants announced yesterday that starting cornerback Prince Amukamara will not play because of the hamstring injury he suffered last week vs. New Orleans. Rookie Jayron Hosley will start for Amukamara.

To open a spot on their roster, the Giants waived offensive lineman Selvish Capers, who played for the first time last week in a victory over New Orleans.

Frederick, 5-11 and 188 pounds, was signed to the practice squad on September 7, a week after he was waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Frederick was selected by the Steelers on the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft, the 246th overall selection. He played in all four of Pittsburgh’s preseason games, finishing with four tackles on defense, two on special teams and a pass defensed.

At Texas A&M, Frederick played in 50 games with 49 starts, including the last 39 games of his career. An honorable mention All-Big 12 selection in 2010 and 2011, Frederick finished his career with 205 tackles, six sacks, four interceptions and 29 passes defensed. As a senior, he led the team with 13 pass breakups. He returned an interception 57 yards vs. Kansas State and scooped up a blocked punt and returned it 63 yards for a touchdown vs. Texas Tech.

Frederick starred at Katy High School in Texas. He was born on Feb. 10, 1990.

Without Capers, the Giants will have only two backup offensive linemen available for the game, Jim Cordle and James Brewer.
