Tight end Jason Witten represented the Dallas Cowboys at the uniform unveiling. He was asked about new Giants tight end
“I think he has a bright future ahead of him,” Witten said. “Although his career hasn’t gone as he had hoped, I think he’ll do a good job. Mike Pope is a really good tight ends coach and will help Martellus a lot. Martellus is a very talented player.”
Witten is looking forward to the NFL season opener against the Giants in prime time on Wednesday, Sept. 5.
“I’m excited,” Witten said. “You have the defending champs at their place on opening day. Our season ended there (with a 31-14 loss to the Giants on New Year’s Night) and obviously it was a disappointment. They played better than we did. If you ever needed motivation, it’s right in front of you. But they’re a good football team and they have a lot of confidence. You never know how a season’s going to unfold. But I’m excited about this. It’s fun to play on the big stage and go against the best. Who better to play than the defending champs, the Giants, at their place?”
