The release of Chris Canty last month opened up a spot at defensive tackle for the Giants, and newly-acquired Cullen Jenkins is expected to compete for the role opposite starter Linval Joseph. Entering his 10^th NFL season, the veteran Jenkins will join a group of five (plus one signed to a Reserve/Future contract) at the tackle position, which saw its share of injuries last season.

As it currently stands, here is a look at the depth at defensive tackle on the Giants roster:

LINVAL JOSEPH

Notes: Started all 16 games at LDT in 2012; Started 35 of 42 career games in three seasons (including four postseason en route to winning Super Bowl XLVI); Originally a 2nd round (46th pick overall) draft choice by the Giants in 2010; Doubled sack total last season (had 2.0 in 2011).

CULLEN JENKINS

Notes: Played seven seasons with the Packers and last two with the Eagles; Career includes 125 regular-season games (98 starts) with 260 tackles (184 solo), 38.5 sacks, six forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries; Ranks fourth among NFL defensive tackles with 21.0 sacks since 2009 and 16.5 since 2010; Has played in eight postseason games with three starts and has 17 tackles (13 solo) and 2.0 sacks.

SHAUN ROGERS

Notes: Giants re-signed the 13-year veteran in February; Started the 2012 preseason but was soon diagnosed with a blood clot in his leg and was placed on injured reserve on Aug. 31; Has played in 156 regular-season games with 128 starts for three teams: Detroit (7 seasons), Cleveland (3) and New Orleans (1); Career totals include 602 tackles (404 solo), 37.5 sacks, 27 PD, four forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, 14 blocked field goal attempts; Pro Bowl starter on the NFC team in 2004 and 2005 and a reserve on the AFC team in 2008.

Notes:Played in first 10 games as a rookie in 2012 after being drafted by the Giants in the seventh round; Made his first and only start in Week 5 against Cleveland; Season ended Nov. 11 when he tore his ACL at Cincinnati; Started playing football when he was 15 in his home country of Germany.
