Eisen's Mailbag: Depth at running back

Posted Feb 14, 2013

Giants.com's Michael Eisen answers your questions!

Today’s edition of The Mailbag on Giants.com:

I am still curious at what the Giants will do to add depth at RB. David Wilson will be ready to go, but it's still uncertain if Andre Brown will be able to rebound from his knee injury in 2012. With former Giants Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs both open to returning to the Giants, is there any chance that one of them could be considered for a re-signing at the right price? Or would it be better for the Giants to add depth to the position via draft?
-Abel

First of all, Andre Brown did not have a knee injury; he fractured his fibula. The bone should be healed in time for him to participate in the offseason conditioning program, which begins on April 15. The Giants have Wilson, Brown and Da'Rel Scott, who spent most of last season on injured reserve. I believe they’ll add at least one more back to compete for a job in training camp. However, it’s extremely doubtful that back will be Jacobs. It’s possible it could be Bradshaw, if he proves he’s healthy – he recently had another foot surgery – and he’ll play for less money than he earned last year. Because of his receiving and pass protection skills, Bradshaw would likely be a good third down back.
