Today’s edition of The Mailbag on Giants.com:
Is anyone out there as absolutely stunned as me that Michael Strahan did not make the Hall of Fame? Are you kidding me? He was the one guy I was "SURE" of! He was twice the player Warren Sapp was. This is an outrage.
I was very surprised Strahan is not part of the 2013 Class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And I do think he is more deserving that Warren Sapp. Though they were very different players, I would ask this: who would you rather have on your team, Strahan or Sapp. To me it’s Strahan, a defensive end who played the run superbly and is fifth on the NFL’s career sack list. I am, of course, biased, as I saw almost every game Strahan played in his career. The voters on the selection committee I spoke to think it’s just a matter of time before Strahan is voted in, perhaps next year. After the Hall of Fame announcement last Saturday I ran into Strahan in New Orleans. He was disappointed, of course, but also philosophical. He said 2014 would be a better year for him to get voted in, because the Super Bowl will be in the New York/New Jersey area. Let’s hope that happens.
Will the Giants keep
I strongly believe Cruz will be a member of the 2013 Giants, but nothing is guaranteed. Cruz is seeking a long-term contract for big money. If he is not re-signed by March 12, he will become a restricted free agent. The Giants could place a $2.879 first round tender on him, meaning they would get a first-round draft choice if Cruz signed elsewhere. We’ll see how it plays out. Regarding free agency, I don’t know what your definition of “big” is. But I would expect the Giants to add players once the signing period beings next month.
