Fantasy expert makes their picks

Posted Sep 6, 2013

Giants.com's fantasy expert lists which sleepers you should start and bench for Week 1.

START

QB Sam Bradford - RAMS

Bradford has had an average career for being a no.1 overall pick so far, though he hasn’t had a great supporting cast to help him out. That is until this season. with the new additions to the Rams offense such as Jared Cook (TE) , 8th overall pick, Tavon Austin (WR) and leading receiver Chris Givens (WR) returning, St.Louis could have plenty of sleepers on the offensive side of the ball( RB Daryl Richardson as well). Throw in the factor that St.Louis plays in a dome at least 8 games a year, why not take a chance. START

WR Cordarrelle Patterson - Vikings

Patterson could very well be one of the most dynamic players in all of football this season. Known mainly for his kick-off and punt return highlights from Tennessee, he can do it all. Listed as the no.3 wide-out in Minnesota as of now, I think Patterson will move up the depth charts as soon as week 2. Look out for him to be the playmaker on the receiving side of the ball, with play-action going to be in full effect this year. START

WR Jermichael Finley - Packers

A few seasons ago Finley was viewed as one of the best tight ends in the National Football League. After only only catching 2 touchdown passes and 667 receiving yards all of last year, he is considered a back up in most leagues. His 8 touchdowns and 100 yards more receiving in 2011, shows the value is there. With a shaky Green Bay offensive-line upcoming in 2013, Aaron Rodgers will look for Finley early and often this entire season. With a quarterback as talented as Rodgers, it’s hard to even see the risk. START

RB Lamar Miller - Dolphins

Miller’s been one of the most talked about running backs in fantasy thus far and I’m all about it. With Ryan Tannehill coming into his 2nd season, Miami will more than likely run the ball there fair share and that means more touches for Miller. Averaging just under 5.0 yards per carry last year (4.9 ypc), Miller is waiting for his opportunity to shine. Playing the Cleveland Browns week 1, only helps matters. START.

Buccaneers Defense

Tampa Bay had an up and down season last year as an entire team. They addressed some important positions on defense, adding arguably the most coveted free agent signings of this past year: all-pro cornerback Darrelle Revis and pro bowl safety Dashon Goldson. These two players presence alone, will make the Buccaneers viewed to be one of the best secondaries in the league. The Jets will start rookie quarterback, Geno Smith. The turnovers will come, only question is how many will there be. START Bench

BENCH

TE Brandon Pettitgrew - Lions

Pettitgrew is an average fantasy football tight end. Hauling in only 3 touchdowns last year and 567 yards receiving, the big man had a down year to say the least. Just in 2011 alone, he caught over 24 more receptions and 210 yards receiving than last season. It’s hard to be productive in an offense that is centered around one player, and that one player just happens to be the maybe the best in football. Calvin Johnson aka Megatron. BENCH

QB Jake Locker - Titans

Locker could very well be a great fantasy option in 2013, especially in 2 quarterback leagues. With his threat to run and throw every time he drops back, he has the athleticism that the NFL is starting to use at quarterback for running options and wild-cat type run offenses. I just wouldn’t recommend starting him vs. a Dick LeBeau Pittsburgh Steelers defense, that is renown for getting after inexperienced Quarterbacks. They don't call it Blitzburgh for nothing. BENCH

RB Chris Ivory - Jets

Ivory has shown some explosiveness and has had some great carries when he played for the New Orleans Saints. Though he has yet too prove it enough on a consistent basis for his fantasy start worthy just yet. Wait a week before he gets the nod to start. See what type of plan the Jets offense may have for him and go from there. BENCH

Panthers Defense

Carolina is coming off possibly it’s most disappointing season ever, in the short time they have been a franchise. Their opponent week 1, the Seattle Seahawks are no doubt one of the best teams in both the NFC and NFL. With the likes of Carolina Panthers linebackers Luke Keuchly ( 164 Tackles led team, 2 Int’s), and Jon Beason (573 tackles in career) , Greg Hardy (DE) (11 sacks in 2012) and first round pick, Star Lotulelei (DT) 315 pounds, Seahawks could run into some trouble, but highly doubtful. I see Seattle putting up big numbers on the scoreboard. Beast mode. BENCH

WR Mike Williams - Buccaneers

Williams had a monster year ( 15.8 ypc), especially compared to the down year he had before that in 2011(11.9 ypc, 3 touchdowns). He caught 9 touchdowns as the number 2 wide out in Tampa Bay and racked up 996 receiving yards in 2012. With more attention back on him, look for the yards and touchdowns to go back to average. BENCH
