Five Potential Comeback Players in 2013

Posted Jul 17, 2013

Giants.com highlights five players who could have bounce back years

WR Hakeem Nicks
After posting career numbers in the Super Bowl run of 2011, Hakeem Nicks had career lows in yards and touchdowns last season. Injuries were a major factor for Nicks, who played 13 games last season, the fewest of his four-year career. Nicks has said he feels healthy and was able to run around a little bit at minicamp last month. We’ll see what the staff has planned for him with players reporting to training camp next weekend.
2012: 13 GP, 11 GS, 53 REC, 692 YDS (13.1), 3 TD
Career: 255 REC, 3,726 YDS (14.6), 27 TD
2012 NYG Team Passing Rank: 12th (YDS), 11th (TDS)

PHOTOS OF COMEBACK PLAYERS

DE Justin Tuck
Sixth on the Giants’ all-time sack list, Tuck had 9.0 sacks in the last two seasons combined. Previously, the defensive captain had double-digit totals three times between 2007 and 2010. Meanwhile, the Giants dropped to 22nd in the NFL in sacks last season.
“Just working my butt off to become Justin Tuck of old,” he said about his offseason goals. “Do whatever I can do as a leader in a leadership role to prepare this team for a championship run next year. And get some rest and just come back knowing that regardless of what happened this year, we still have a very quality football team that could put it all together again next year and have an epic 2013.”
2012: 15 GP, 14 GS, 45 TACKLES, 4.0 SACKS, 1 PD
Career: 390 TACKLES, 49.5 SACKS, 21 PD, 1 INT, 18 FF
2012 NYG Team Defense Rank: 31st (YDS), 12th (PTS/G), 22nd (SACKS)

CB Corey Webster
Defensive players have said there is a sense of urgency heading into 2013, and no one feels that more on the Giants than Corey Webster. After suffering a broken hand early in the season, Webster didn’t have the year he expected in 2012, nor did the secondary as a whole, finishing 28th in passing yards allowed.
“We had a lot of errors all across the field and that’s everywhere,” Webster said. “So we have to use that film to try and get better. It’s always hard to use film when you lose to get better, but there’s always a silver lining. We’re doing just that. We’re correcting those mistakes, those communication errors, and those misplays so we can eliminate them now and not go into the season trying to eliminate them.”
2012: 16 GP, 16 GS, 58 TACKLES, 13 PD, 4 INT
Career: 358 TACKLES, 97 PD, 20 INT, 6 FF
2012 Team Passing Defense Rank: 28th (YDS), 19th (TDS)

LB Aaron Curry
The label of being a fourth overall draft choice has followed Aaron Curry around from Seattle to Oakland and now to New York. Playing 16 games only once in his career (2010), the linebacker has played 5, 11, and 2 games in the last three seasons. Yet Curry is optimistic about his future of becoming an impact linebacker and is looking forward to emptying the tank to get on the field this season with the Giants.
2012: 2 GP, 1 TACKLE
Career: 48 GP, 203 TACKLES

CB Terrell Thomas
After undergoing surgery each of the previous two years to repair a torn right ACL, Terrell Thomas has a now-or-never mindset heading into 2013. He has been open about playing any position in the secondary as long it puts him on the field, something he has not done in the regular season since 2010.
Career: 44 GP, 231 TACKLES, 11 INT, 6 FF, 38 PD
