Standout Players from Practice
3) There were plenty of interceptions to go around on Wednesday. After breaking up a pass from Painter earlier in practice, Hosley made the next one a turnover. He intercepted Painter on a pass that tipped off the hands of Hardy in team drills. Meanwhile, Spencer Paysinger is holding onto his starting role by making plays like he did in Wednesday’s practice. He read the offense perfectly on a play and picked off Ryan Nassib, who was earlier intercepted by Terrell Thomas during 7-on-7 drills.
4) Ryan Mundy has been filling in for the injured Antrel Rolle and looks comfortable in the top safety spot opposite Stevie Brown. He made a physical play on Nassib’s pass over the middle to tight end Jamie Childers, ripping out the ball before Childers could gain possession. Mundy, as he was billed coming in, plays a physical brand of football, which is what you want from a safety.
5) The Giants wore full pads in the final practice of training camp. That meant 9-on-7 drills one last time to work out the kinks in the run game on both sides of the ball. However, the best battles were later on when the offensive and defensive lines were off doing their own drill. While the rest of the team was doing 7-on-7 work, the linemen were on the adjacent field having a competition that pitted one defender against a side of the offensive line. No one clearly won out, but the players were getting lathered up in the hot weather as shouts, cheers, and the occasional elongated “Oh” were heard across the complex.
