Giants.com's Dan Salomone recaps the day at Giants minicamp

Welcome back, Giants fans.

The team was outdoors today at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center for the second round of its three-day mandatory minicamp.

>> 3 STANDOUTS FROM PRACTICE

From drones to interceptions and a former player returning to the sidelines, Wednesday had it all. So let’s get to it.

Here is a recap of Day 2:

HIGHLIGHTS

Steve Spagnuolo’s defense won the day again at minicamp. Cornerback Prince Amukamara grabbed his second interception in as many days, while his backfield mate Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie also caught one with one hand. However, Rodgers-Cromartie’s would have been called back because it was a free play for the offense after there was movement up front by the defense.

Cornerback Chandler Fenner also flashed again, breaking up a Ricky Stanzi pass intended for wide receiver Juron Criner.

The day built up to the two-minute drill, which the defense ended by forcing an incompletion on fourth down to the cheers of the players in blue jerseys.

Before that, though, the ones in white (the offensive players) had their share of moments. Running back Andre Williams showed his speed and power on a few good runs. Wide receiver Rueben Randle also juked the defense out of its shoes after catching a short pass, which he took up the field for a big gain.

THE FRESH PRINCE

Two practices, two interceptions so far for Amukamara. Similar to the one he had yesterday off Eli Manning, Amukamara this time jumped into backup quarterback Ryan Nassib’s passing lane to make the grab and run it back up the sideline.

ANOTHER EYE IN THE SKY

Technology and football took another step forward today at practice.

>> GIANTS USE DRONE TO FILM PRACTICE

In addition to the high end zone and sideline cameras manned by the Giants’ video department on top of hydraulic lifts, the team used a drone today as a third eye in the sky for the first portion of 11-on-11 team drills.

COUGHLIN MIC’D UP

Giants.com wired up Tom Coughlin during Tuesday’s practice.

Stay tuned for that feature, and in the meantime, check out these past “mic’d up” moments from the head coach and other Giants.

FRED ROBBINS BACK ON THE SIDELINES

Former Giants defensive tackle and Super Bowl XLII champion Fred Robbins has been working with the defensive line at minicamp in a temporary coaching role under Spagnuolo, his old defensive coordinator.

Robbins, who was originally drafted by the Vikings in 2000, played six seasons with Big Blue from 2004-2009. He missed only three games in the stretch, making 78 starts and recording 215 tackles and 25.0 sacks.

ONE AND DONE

The Giants have one more day of minicamp tomorrow before going on their “summer break,” as we won’t see them on the field again until training camp, which starts July 30.
