The Giants continued to make roster moves today as they prepare for their preseason game Saturday night vs. the Jets.

The team signed defensive back/return specialist Laron Scott and defensive tackle Bobby Skinner, the third player at that position they added in two days. On Wednesday, the Giants added defensive tackles Carlton Powell and Oren Wilson.

Linebacker Clint Sintim, who suffered serious knee injuries each of the previous two seasons, was waived/failed physical. He had been on the physically unable to perform list.

Defensive end Justin Trattou was waived/injured. He sustained ankle and heel injuries early in training camp.

“We found ourselves in need of players at a certain position (defensive tackle),” coach Tom Coughlin said. “We felt that was probably the best way to go for both, for Clint as well. He’s probably quite a ways away.”

Regarding Trattou, Coughlin said, “Same basic thing. We feel it would be wonderful to just keep everybody and be able to have a place for everybody. Justin did a nice job for us last year, as a rookie, just coming in and making the team and being very good on special teams and giving us a great look. In this case, the doctors tell us he’s quite a ways away and we felt like this was something we needed to do to bolster that one spot.”

Scott, 5-9 and 184 pounds, was waived by the New Orleans Saints on Aug. 6. He had a 67-yard kickoff return for the Saints in the Hall of Fame game vs. Arizona the previous night. Scott signed with New Orleans as a rookie free agent on May 3.

Scott played three seasons at Southern Georgia, where last year he ranked third in the NCAA with a 30.59-yard kickoff return average. He had a career-average of 27.9 yards with two touchdowns.

Scott played in 40 games with 12 starts and had 12 interceptions which he returned 127 yards (10.6-yard average) and two touchdowns.

Skinner, 6-3 and 298 pounds, is a native of Staten Island who played last season at Division III Montclair State, about 15 minutes from MetLife Stadium. In 10 games he was credited with 28 tackles (20 solo), 7.0 tackles for losses and 6.5 sacks.

Sintim, the Giants’ second-round draft choice in 2009, tore his right ACL on Dec. 13, 2010 and re-tore it, as well as the patella tendon, in the preseason finale at New England on Sept. 1, 2011.

The Giants have two players remaining on the physically unable to perform list, defensive tackle Chris Canty and tight end Travis Beckum. Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks was activated off the list this week.

Trattou played in six games last season after being signed as a rookie free agent from Florida.
