Q: Are there any positives that came from yesterday’s game?
A: We did some positive things but there are no moral victories here. We felt like we left stuff out there on the field. We left a game out there in San Fran that we thought we should have had. We are well beyond being happy about playing and coming up losing. That is not the mentality that we have around here.
Q: Is continuing to have to win games late becoming stressful and straining the offense?
A: This is my eighth year and the majority of the time it is a four-quarter game. If I remember correctly, we were leading going into the fourth quarter. All the stuff about consistently coming from behind, that is just the competitive nature of the game. You would love to go in and blow teams out and have a comfortable cushion in the fourth quarter but that is not realistic. That was the case yesterday and you guys can write all you want about flirting with danger and the fourth quarter comebacks but that is what we talk about. We talk about getting the game in the fourth quarter and finding a way to win. That has been our philosophy since I have been here.
Q: Where does this running game need to be at this point in the season?
A: It is not where it needs to be and looking at the tape, which is what I just got done doing, we had some good runs against the number one rush defense. Is it where we want it to be? No. We definitely didn’t block a couple plays as clean as we should’ve and we left a couple yards out there on the field. We played physical with them yesterday and you have to give them credit. That is why they are number one against the run, they proved it. At the end of the day, we were still under 100 yards and that’s where we needed to be. We will keep working but we had some positive things yesterday.
Q: Is Eli the same after a win or lose?
A: Eli is the same win or lose, touchdown or interception. It has been well documented that he is very even keel. The way he was when you saw him last Monday and today he came in and had that same goofy look on his face. He went about his normal day. That is Eli.
Q: Why did the offense stall on the first two drives?
A: We didn’t make the plays and we didn’t finish. We moved the ball down there the way we wanted to. We used the clock and … that was the difference in the game right there. It can’t happen.
Q: Why have the Giants had bad second halves of the seasons in recent years?
A: We are not analyzing previous years here. As far as I can remember, we had bad years and we had a good year and won the Super Bowl so I think that is finishing strong. With this team, we are not worried about second halves, like everyone else is. We are worried about Philadelphia this week. We are not looking ahead.
Q: What is the character of this team?
A: I like the guys that we have, I like our team and the chances that we have. I think we have the makings of a very good football team and we can be very successful. The things that we did and not finishing drives, we can’t do against good teams like yesterday. We have to play better against those teams but I like what we have. I have never questioned the fight of any of the guys we have on this team. I will never do that. I like what we have.
Q: Can you talk about the opportunity you have to bury the Eagles?
A: We are worried about just getting back in the win column. To take the season series from them and win another NFC East game will be big for us. We know it is not going to be easy, it wasn’t easy when we went down there. I know they have lost a lot of fourth quarter leads this year but that is a talented group but they are going to come up here and give their best shot. They will get ours and it will come down to the fourth quarter. Either win or lose, I wouldn’t rule those guys out because they are very talented, they are a talented group.
