The New York Giants travel to face the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, August 20 (4 p.m. ET) at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Big Blue also plays the Jets and Patriots this preseason leading up to Week 1 at Dallas.

WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT THE OFFENSE

McAdoo opted to sit Eli Manning for the first preseason game and start backup quarterback Ryan Nassib. “We have a pretty good idea of what Eli can do,” the head coach said, “and as I said the other day when asked, Ryan is going to play a lot of football for us this preseason.” …  Nassib completed 7 of 15 passes for 75 yards with two interceptions and a lost fumble … RB Shane Vereen made a nice spin move on the opening drive to break a 19-yard run … WR Sterling Shepard’s first NFL catch was a 24-yard gain to set up first-and-goal at the 8 … RB Rashad Jennings capped the opening drive with a 3-yard TD run … The first-team offensive line played two series before the backups came in … RB Andre Williams led the team with nine carries for 41 yards (4.6-yard average) …  TEAM PASSING: 69 yards … TEAM RUSHING: 158 yards.

“The first couple of drives we saw some glimpses of things that we can do well,” Jennings said. “We see that if we eliminate self-inflicted wounds, eliminate pre-snap penalties, then we have a great chance of being a good offense, putting points on the board, putting our defense in great spots and playing team football, but we have to take care [of our own mistakes] first.”

WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT THE DEFENSE

Playing against his former team, DE Oliver Vernon notched two quarterback hits on his old teammate Ryan Tannehilll … LB Jonathan Casillas, who almost had one earlier in the game, intercepted backup QB Matt Moore late in the first quarter, returning it down to the Miami 11 to set up a Giants field goal … DE Stansly Maponga had a sack in the second quarter for a 7-yard loss to force Miami to punt … DE Owa Odighizuwa notched three quarterback hits, including two sacks … Rookie LB B.J. Goodson had seven solo tackles, including two tackles for loss … The Giants allowed 27 unanswered points … OPPONENT PASSING: 192 yards … OPPONENT RUSHING: 105 yards.

“I saw the defensive ends flying around,” DT Damon Harrison said. “This one play, I look, OV shot out of the stands like lightning and JPP [Jason Pierre-Paul] was on the other side, Hank [Johnathan Hankins] was in the backfield. I just saw the whole defensive line, as whole, working, as well as the cover guys, to give those guys a chance to get back there.”

WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT SPECIAL TEAMS

RB Bobby Rainey handled return duties on kickoffs (18.0-yard average) and punts (5.7-yard average) in the first half … Brad Wing had two punts inside the 20-yard line, including one downed by LS Zak DeOssie at the 7 … Rookie CB Eli Apple recovered a Rainey fumble on a punt return … Josh Brown made his one field goal attempt from 20 yards.
