Q: How much do you want to be back here next year?
A: I would love to be back. I’ve had conversations with the coaches and I just talked to Jerry Reese and hopefully we can get things figured out and get back here. I’d love to. Hopefully they want me back and we’ll figure it out when the time comes.
Q: What did Jerry say to you?
A: He just appreciated my effort. I gave it all out there and the answer was good for a guy to say about you. I was happy to hear that. That was a good comment by him. I appreciated it.
Q: Did he say that they wanted to bring you back as well?
A: They’re reviewing everybody at the same time, so there’s a lot to go into this. I don’t make those decisions. Him along with the coaches and the scouts… those are decisions that they’ll make and that’s what they get paid to do.
Q: The resume of the defensive team wasn’t good. Do you agree with that?
A: Yeah. Obviously, we didn’t play the way we wanted to. We started decent. Our third downs were really good for a while and then we really went in the tank on third down percentages. I heard it was big. Turnover wise, we created a lot of turnovers. That was a very positive statement for us. Red zone, I think, ended up being one of the decent red zone performances of the year that we’ve had around here for a while. But total yards, rushing yards we gave up too many missed tackle wise. Obviously, the total defense as you look at it we need to improve.
Q: Do you think you’ve made a better case for yourself in free agency this time around than the last time you were a free agent?
A: I hope so. I played every game. I was a part of it and I felt like I played relatively consistently throughout the year. I had some strong performances and I laid it all out there. That’s all I can say and hopefully it was enough.
Q: I imagine your last performance was a strong one.
A: Yeah. Yesterday was pretty good. I was fortunate. They gave me the ball, so it’s always good ending on that note for a season even though I’d much rather be in the playoffs than having a game ball right now.
