Players Quotes - August 3: Bradshaw, Hill

Posted Aug 3, 2012

A week away from their first preseason games, players and coaches give updates on the team.

TOM COUGHLIN

Q: Coach, do you have a decent idea of where everybody stands right note, kind of a week through camp?
A: Uh, yeah. Everybody came in very good shape, very good condition. Most everybody has made a real commitment, as far as having their weight where they need to be. Other than Chris, he’s going to be a little bit, everything is right where we need to be right now.

Q: Having guys like Osi, and JPP and Justin together, how formidable is that group when they’re on the field?
A: They’re a formidable group. They’ve all come in a good frame of mind, and I’m very pleased with where they are right now.

Q: What do you expect to see from Marvin, and what are you seeing out of Marvin?
A: A lot of quickness and explosiveness. Off to a good start, very good condition. You know, the thing with Marvin, he hasn’t played in a couple of years. It’s a good thing, pulling back a little bit sometimes. It’s better to have to tell him, ‘whoa, then go.’ He’s got to slow down a little bit, concentrate on technique a little bit more, but he’s off to a good start in camp. Preseason will tell us, give us a picture of where he is.

PAT FLAHERTY

Q: Where is your group?  What do you like?  Where are they a week into this thing?
A: I like what we did yesterday, I really did. I thought we as a group competed better than what we have thus far this training camp. It’s an old adage with me, that once we put pads on, that’s when we start finding out about what type of group we have. First couple of practices in pads, we weren’t ourselves. We have to develop a personality. Today was the first step for us as an offensive line group to develop that personality that we need. To run the ball better, to protect better, do all the things that are necessary to have a good offense.

Q: Coach was saying that if the temperature amps up, it gets the big guys to work up a sweat, is that a good thing?
A: Yeah, they do, and you know what, there’s a fine line between mental toughness and taking care of your body when you’re out there. We as a good training staff in particular… It’s up to the player when they come to practice to be hydrated. It’s up to all of us, coaches and the trainers, to keep them hydrated as much as we can during the training camp. It’s a little bit different from the old days when I wore a uniform. We might’ve got an ounce of water when the practice went on. We keep them hydrated. They’re going to experience some things they’re going to have to adjust to just like you’re going to experience down in Jacksonville in the first preseason game.

Q: Is it nice to have Will Beatty back on the field after battling injuries through OTA’s and mini-camp?
A: Yeah, it is. He’s done a nice job. Right now, he’s working through the pain in his back, but he doesn’t show many signs of it. I know time to time he’ll go and get re-checked just to make sure everything is ok, but William has missed so much time as I mentioned to him the other day, When was the last time you had pads on? The first day he put pads on was November of 2011. So they felt a little bit different for him, but worked through it. He’s really progressing very well, I just hope, as we all that the back holds up well for him, to work through it.

AHMAD BRADSHAW

Q: Are you feeling good Ahmad?
A: I feel great. I can’t complain.

Q: How’s it been going? We’re seven practices in, how do we feel?
A: We feel great, man. We’re still going, trying to get better every day. This is why we’re here. We’re trying to come together as a team, as a group. We’re just trying to feel everybody out, to see what everybody has. Everybody’s trying to make plays and trying to impress the coaches and our staff.

Q: Yesterday Coach [Coughlin] was saying it was a big hot day and everybody got sweat on. Is that a good thing? I know it’s probably not fun.
A: Yeah, it’s always a good thing. It’s a great day to get in shape. The sun’s out and you know everybody’s having fun and towards the end you kind of feel it. The monkey jumps on your back and you see a lot of guys who are hurting who just take a knee and just try to get it back.

WILL HILL

Q: It seems like you’ve gained more playing time with some of the starting units that we’ve seen.  What’d they say to you in regard to that?
A: Everybody has been a little impressed about my play right now. A lot of guys have been going down injured and things like that, so I’ve just been stepping up and playing my part.

Q: What do you think about that role that they have you in, playing down low, kind of like a nickel, two-linebacker type deal.
A: I like it. I like it a lot. Actually, when I came in at Florida, that’s the first position I actually played. By me coming in here and doing that, they seem similar. I’m already accumulated with the position.

Q: Coach had some good things to say about you yesterday, kind of the way you were playing.  Can you talk about that and you making an impression in camp?
A: I have that mentality, because I wasn’t drafted or anything like that. I have to prove myself to not only the coaches, but the players, that I belong here. That’s how I go out every day and attack everything full on.
