Q: As you were running through that tunnel of people, was there any kid or any parent in particular who caught your eye? Or did you just take in the whole scene?
A: Just looking at all of the faces. I looked at the excitement, and the smiles that I’m sure haven’t been there in a while. I’m sure that when they head back to their town, they’ll still think about what happened. To be able to provide some relief for them made us all feel good, to perform the way we did. Putting on a performance like that for them to enjoy, makes us feel good.
Q: Have you ever had a postgame blowout victory feel like this one?
A: No. Not at all. It’s frustrating, and it will be for quite some time. I believe that we’re a better team than 9-7, but there is no ground to stand on. That’s our record, and the way we played the last two weeks, we don’t deserve to be in the playoffs.
Q: Does this kind of game make you feel frustrated?
A: Absolutely, it’s frustrating. It’s very frustrating, very frustrating.
Q: When did you find about the Lions’ loss to the Bears?
A: I was trying to check on my phone, but I don’t get service in here. Somebody told me.
Q: When you were in here after the game?
A: Yeah, it was after the game.
Q: During the game, there were some cheers.
A: Yeah, it was close. There were two minutes to go when we came in.
Q: Was there realistic hope for you? Just the scenario?
A: Sure. They’re division rivals, anything can happen. Detroit would want nothing more than to end their season by knocking Chicago out. That’s why we were all positive about it.
Q: Tom said that he wanted to ask some of the players about what happened over the last two weeks? I’m sure he’ll ask you, he’ll ask a bunch of guys.
A: Tell him I don’t know. I put my heart into this. Played through a lot, I put the time in, I come in early at about six o’clock every morning. If I had an answer, I would tell him.
Q: What’s the one game that you can look back and say, “That’s the one that really killed us?”
A: I don’t know. They all are disappointing for different reasons.
