RB David Wilson on his first season in the NFL

Q: Do you think you can become a guy who does carry the load for the Giants?
A: I’m just working hard in the same role. When the coaches want me in, then I want to step in and be effective.

Q: On the touchdown reception, it appeared to be a wheel route. What did you see there and what did you make happen?
A: Just running the play. I saw the ball go up, and I knew I had to come back and get it. I just made a play on the ball.

Q: Was there one game on the schedule this year that you would point to as the game that you feel was the one that got away from you, and it might have cost you the season?
A: All the close games, you wish you could have them back, especially with the situation that we’re in now. We need other teams to win and we don’t control our own destiny. If we make the playoffs, I’m happy and if we don’t , I’m looking forward to next year and getting back at it.

Q: Chicago won.
A: Oh, damn. Well, that’s it.

Q: That’s it?
A: Yeah.

Q: Mixed feelings on a day like this. Personally, you did real well. Obviously, you guys are leaving on a disappointing note because of missing the playoffs.
A: Yeah. We didn’t make the playoffs, so now it’s back to the drawing board and getting ready for next season.

Q: What did you learn from your first year in the NFL?
A: Don’t make mistakes.

Q: What was up with the backflip? A: It’s been requested by a couple of people for the enjoyment of the team. A lot of fans were complaining when I said I was going to stop doing it. It was like I got a bigger reaction when I said I wasn’t going to do it than when I was doing it and people were saying it was dangerous.

Q: Now it’s back for the next ten years?
A: As long as I can do it.

Q: You got the start today, can you talk about that?
A: Yeah. I was named the starter this week. Like I said, I’ve just been working hard. Whenever the coaches needed me to step up or go in the game, I want to be ready.

Q: Before you said it was a package thing, when you mentioned that you started. Did it surprise you that you started?
A: Yeah, a little bit. Definitely. It was the last game of the season, and then a sudden change like that, I was like “whoa.”

Q: When did they tell you? Friday?
A: Yeah, it was Friday. Our last practice, that’s when I was told. Actually, it was Saturday.

Q: Did you feel like you had a good week in practice? You had four carries last week, along with the touchdown run. What do you think was the difference? A: I don’t know. Nothing different. Same week of practice.

Q: Were you frustrated by the lack of carries last week?
A: Nope. It was kind of sudden.
