RB Wilson makes most of opportunity

Posted Oct 7, 2012

RB David Wilson got in on the action with his first career touchdown run

Forty-four plays and 36:37 off the game clock separated David Wilson’s two carries on Sunday against Cleveland.

Patience has been the name of the game for the first-rounder in his rookie campaign. Wilson, however, made the most of his pair of carries in Week 5, in addition to four kick returns.

The first was a counter play for four yards. On the second, his offensive line parted the seas with 5:49 left in the game, and a 40-yard diagonal sprint later, Wilson found himself in the end zone for the first time in his professional career.

And the streak lives on.

“I was just telling [rookie tight end] Adrien [Robinson] before the game that I never played a football season in my life without scoring a touchdown,” Wilson said. “Now I can continue the same.”

In between his two attempts for 44 yards, Wilson was cheering each of Ahmad Bradshaw’s 200 yards. But with Wilson’s score, it was Bradshaw watching the rookie as the six-year vet made sure he got back the treasured ball from his first touchdown.

“Ahmad came and got it for me,” Wilson said. “I was looking for it, and he had it in his hands. He was looking out for me.”

Wilson and the Giants hope it’s the first of many.

“It comes with experience,” Wilson said. “The more and more you’re around the offense, the more comfortable you get, the more you can start playing like yourself.”
