And in case you’re from the Bayou, you noticed that it was used more often as a twig at LSU.
While the top brass in East Rutherford repeatedly praised their second-round draft pick for his ability to run all the routes – the proverbial tree – wide receiver
The BCS runner-up ranked No. 111 out of 120 programs last season with 279 passing attempts, completing 173 of them (12 per game). Of those, 53 were caught by Randle while he managed to rake in 917 of the Tigers’ 2,135 passing yards, or roughly 43 percent. That also went along with his 17.3 yards-per-catch, 10 more than the team’s average.
But that’s enough with numbers. Read what the director of college scouting had to say.
“He didn’t get a lot of chances,” Marc Ross said in a press conference following the pick. “When the ball came to him he was productive, but he just didn’t get a ton of chances to win games, to catch, but when they went his way he made plays…There was enough to see his skill set and see his physical tools. Then you go from there.”
Now Randle will be stepping up and catching passes from another SEC product in Ole Miss alum
“Eli is one of the best quarterbacks in the league, if not the best,” Randle told WFAN this weekend. “He won two Super Bowls in the last four years. That’s going to be a great thing for me to come in with a great quarterback that can spread the ball around.
“It’s a blessing to come into this opportunity -- a great team with the Giants, the Super Bowl champs. I’m just coming in and adding to that, and I’m just going to do whatever the team needs me to do to be successful.”
“I felt like I was ready,” Randle said. “I felt like I prepared myself on and off the field…going against great competition each and every day in practice and also in the games on Saturday. So I felt like my game was up to par enough for me to jump to the next level.”
