Q: Coach Coughlin said he would talk to the players about what happened in the two previous weeks. Do you have any answers?
A: I’ll probably speak to him about it. I’ll have a player to coach conversation and see where it takes us.
Q: Do you feel that there is enough on the roster to build on?
A: Absolutely. I think we have a whole lot to build on. I understand what this team is about. We understand the type of players that we have here in this locker room and we just didn’t get things done the way we should have. We’ll be fine. I have all the confidence in the world in this organization and this team and in the coaching staff. We’ll bounce back. It just won’t be this year.
Q: The defense finished near the bottom of the league. How much does that bother you?
A: I take a whole lot of pride in the defense and what we bring to the table. A lot of times we can get caught up with numbers as far as the rankings, but overall as a defense, I think there were some games we played extremely well and I think there were some games we played extremely bad. The main focus point is trying to find that area where you’re playing on a more consistent basis, doing the things that you’re taught to do or making plays when an opportunity presents itself or just being just a better defense all around, having more fight, having a lot more attitude in our play. I think that’s going to play a huge part and more importantly understanding the defense with all the ins and outs of the defense. Not just your assignment per se. Just understand the entire defense. I think that played a huge role in a lot of big plays that happened against us this year also.
Q: You speak of consistency and needing to find that. Was that not always the case?
A: I guess, but you can always go and say you’re going to do your job but ultimately this is a team sport.
