Summer Q&A with CB Eli Apple

Posted Jul 15, 2016 chats with players for a Summer Q&A about all things Big Blue:

Get excited. July is the last month without NFL games.

As you -- and Giants players -- enjoy summer vacations, the 2016 season is right around the corner. After reporting for training camp on July 28, the Giants will open the preseason on Aug. 12 vs. Miami and kick off Week 1 at Dallas on Sept. 11.

Leading up to the team's return to the Quest Diagnostics Training Center, caught up with some members of the team for a quick Q&A about all things Big Blue.

Today, we have:

CB Eli Apple

Q: What does “Giants Pride” mean for a rookie?

A: Just the first day, just seeing how everybody went about their business, you could just see it on everybody’s faces, their demeanor. They’re hungry for a championship to bring back to the Giants, and I’m definitely here for that.

Q: What is your definition of pride?

A: Pride is just something you want to have, whatever you’re doing in life, anything that you’re passionate about. You just want to make sure you’re always very serious about it and try to be the best at whatever you do. If it’s football, if it’s out there just doing chores, you want to be the best and take pride in just everything because you were put on this earth for a reason, so just make sure everything you do is top notch.

Q: Now that you’re in the NFL, what does it mean to be able to give back to the community?

A: I think giving back is everything because for me, growing up, I was always the type of person just looking up to people and looking for that role model, and I had a bunch growing up so it was just nice to see that there were guys that were willing to give back a little bit and talk to young kids and do whatever they had to do to give back to the community. So I want to be that same person.

Q: In your position group, who do you look to right now as the leader who can really help you the most?

A: I’m looking at [Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie] and Janoris [Jenkins] right now. They’re just guys that do it the right way, just the way they go about practice and the way they go about preparing, and you can just see it out there on the field just the way they play. They play with a lot of pride, confidence, and I’m just trying to take little things from their game right now.

Q: What is the drive that got you to where you are today?

A: Competitive drive is everything. It’s just that one thing you have to have on the football field. Anytime you’re out there, you want to win, that’s the main thing. You’ve got to do whatever it takes to win, and if you have to fight, claw, scratch somebody, you’ve got to do that -- whatever it takes. I’m just out there every time trying to dominate the player across from me and let him know that he’s going to have a long day.
