Super Bowl Extra Effort Player of the Game

Posted Feb 5, 2012

Vote for the Extra Effort Player of the Game in the Super Bowl.

No contribution can be overlooked in a Super Bowl like the one played against the New England Patriots in Indianapolis on Sunday. However, these three players on offense embodied the Giants’ run to a world championship, and fans can vote Eli Manning, Hakeem Nicks, or Mario Manningham as their “Extra Effort” Player of the Game.

The award is given out after every victory, and voting will be open through Wednesday.

Here is a look at the nominees and their performances.

Eli Manning
earned his second Super Bowl MVP as he hit nine different receiving targets and completed 30 of 40 passes for 296 yards and one touchdown for a passer rating of 103.8. Manning rallied the Giants from a 17-9 third-quarter deficit while leading scoring drives on three of the team’s four second-half possessions.

Hakeem Nicks
led all receivers with 10 catches for 109 yards (10.9 AVG) with a long of 19. He finished the postseason with 28 catches for 444 yards and four touchdowns.

Mario Manningham
caught three passes during the Giants’ final go-ahead drive of the game, including a spectacular 38-yarder down the sideline on the opening play. He finished the game with five catches for 73 yards.
