WR Hakeem Nicks speaks to the media

Q: Eli was saying how the lack of practice reps with you has affected the chemistry between you two.
A: You could probably say that. I was injured this year, it happens in football. You can’t control that aspect. You’ve just got to hope for the best, expect for the best, and play hard each and every day. Coming off of a long season last season, get right back into it this season, and having a rough off-season, it is what it is. I just had to play with the hand that I was dealt. I’m not going to sit here and make excuses for it. As a man, you’ve got to take… I’ll learn from this, I’ll definitely get better from it, and look forward to it.

Q: You were upset about not getting a catch last week.
A: I was.

Q: Upset about not getting a catch? Or not being targeted?
A: I was probably just disappointed in myself. Being a playmaker, you always want the ball. You always want to get the ball thrown at you, always feel like you can make a difference. I’ll always feel like that. I feel like that’s what makes me the player I am. I’ve always had the competitive drive in me. I feel like if I didn’t have it, it would be time for me to step away from the game. I know that I’m nowhere near that phase. I’ll just keep trying to get better. I’ve got to heal up and I’ve got some time to heal up. We’re just going to go out there this week, and it’s still not over for us. If it is meant for us to be in there, we will be in there. We’ve just got to control what we can control, go out there, play this last game hard and we owe it to our fans, and give our fans a great game.

Q: Tom said on Sunday that there were a bunch of players who are banged up, and probably won’t be playing this Sunday. Where do you fit into that?
A: We’re going to see. We’ll see. We really don’t know yet. They haven’t really told me anything about it yet. We’ll see. Whatever they choose for me to do, I’m sure it’s going to be in the best benefit of the team and myself. I’ll just take it and roll with it.

Q: How important is it for you guys to go out and put on a good performance in front of your fans at home?
A: It’s very important. Like I said, let’s go out for the fans. We want to close out games and closing out strong for the city of New York and, most of all, this organization.

RE: On whether injured knee will require offseason surgery:
A: We’ll see. I just have to go through another re-evaluation. Right now, I think we’re just counting on and banking on rest. Once we rest, we’ll see what it says.

Q: What about the foot?
A: Foot? Nah, I think the foot is just still healing. That’s just a process after having a week through, it will take a while to roll. Throughout the course of the year, it’s been healing. It’s still healing, I haven’t had setbacks with the foot, so I think I’ll be good.

Q: Do you think rest is the best option?
A: Yeah. I think just rest. I never really rest. We can’t just cut that part of the equation out, just try to say, ‘Okay, let’s go straight to surgery.’ I never rest my body, and I’m not quick to get cut, go under the needle. We’re going to see how it plays out. Whatever is best for me to do to benefit the team and myself, I’m sure we’ll do it.

Q: Is there anything new, as far as ailments?
A: I’m not really a doctor.
