Eisen's Mailbag: Changes at defensive tackle

Posted Mar 13, 2013's Michael Eisen answers your questions!

You have written that the Giants want to get younger, but Cullen Jenkins, who was signed to replace Chris Canty, is almost two years old than Canty. Also, Jenkins is 6-2 and Canty is 6-7. Is this really a good trade for us?

The men who make the football decisions think it is. Obviously, personnel decisions are not based solely on age. Jenkins is a productive, consistent and durable player. He did not miss a game the previous two years. The Giants like Jenkins’ versatility, because he can stop the run inside at tackle or pressure he passer at end. Jerry Reese and Tom Coughlin believe he is an excellent addition to the defensive front. We’ll find out if they’re right beginning in September.
