Eisen's Mailbag: Who will be 3rd down back?

Posted Jul 15, 2013's Michael Eisen answers your fan questions!

One of the things Ahmad Bradshaw did very well was the third down blocking black. Who do you see filling that role this season?

Dear Dennis:
That is a very important question that has received little attention. The most underappreciated facet of Bradshaw’s game was his ability to protect Eli Manning. That is really the most important job for any Giants running back. Neither David Wilson nor Andre Brown has demonstrated Bradshaw’s pass protection prowess (how’s that for alliteration?). Da’Rel Scott and rookie Michael Cox have yet to prove they can handle that role. So the answer to your question is…I don’t know. Whoever emerges has the best this summer as the best protection back. I’m tempted to say fullback Henry Hynoski, but he is still rehabbing after knee surgery.

Hello, I am an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and am wondering how Tyler Sash fits into the our Giants' secondary plans?

Dear Al:
Sash will have to earn a roster spot in training camp, because the competition at safety is tough. Antrel Rolle and Stevie Brown are the starters. Free agent acquisition Ryan Mundy is a solid veteran, Will Hill should be improved in his second season and the Giants selected Cooper Taylor in the fifth round of this year’s draft. That’s five players who could be ahead of Sash, and that doesn’t count the rookie free agents already with the team or players who could be added. Once again, Sash will almost certainly have to excel o special teams.

Do the Giants still have any unsigned 2013 draft picks? Why?

Dear Jim:
Yes, the Giants have two unsigned draft choices, first-round selection Justin Pugh and fourth rounder Ryan Nassib. Maybe it has something to do with Syracuse, were both players starred. They have signed for the very simple reason they have yet to agree to terms. But training camp doesn’t begin until July 26. That gives each player and the Giants plenty of time to come to terms.
