EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - The New York Giants have selected Mr. Vincent Casale of Central Regional High School (Bayville, NJ) as "The Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week" for the week of September 22, 2008. Coach Casale, in his first year as head coach, led Central to a 12-7 victory over Wall Township, which snapped the team's 14 game losing streak.
In recognition of Coach Casale's success and commitment, he will receive a certificate of recognition signed by the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, NFL Director of Football Operations Gene Washington, and the Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin. A $1,000 check will be granted to the Central Regional High School football program. Coach Casale will be acknowledged by a stadium announcement when the Giants host the Seattle Seahawks on October 5th. An announcement will also be posted on the Giants web site, www.giants.com.
The Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week Award, started in 1996, is part of the Giants' continuing effort to promote youth football. The Giants elected to name the award in memory of former Union High School (NJ) coach, Lou Rettino, for his fine commitment to the game of football, his community and the betterment of his athletes' lives.
Each week during the 2008 high school football season, the Giants will select one area high school head coach as the Coach of the Week winner. The selection is based on the coach's continuing commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes and his overall community involvement. At the conclusion of the 2008season, the Giants will choose a Coach of the Year. That coach will receive $2,000 for their school's football program.
Coach Casale is in his first year as head coach at Central Regional, after taking over the program in late July. In order to get the team ready for the season, Casale, also the Athletic Director at Central Regional High School since 1997, put the school's wrestling coach, Mike Bischoff, in charge of their team conditioning. Coach Casale worked the team hard during the summer months to ensure that they would be ready to go for their season opener.
Prior to becoming Athletic Director in 1997, Casale served as Offensive Coordinator of the football team from 1992- 1996, with a career record at that time of 32-15-1. Casale was Head Football Coach at Pinelands Regional High School from 1987 to 1989 with a record of 12-6. In 1987, the team shared the Shore Conference B South Championship, the school's only division title.
Casale is a graduate of Belleville High School in New Jersey. He played his high school football at Belleville High School, where he was an offensive lineman, and then played football for Seton Hall University. He and his wife, Carole, live in Toms River, NJ, and are the proud parents of Michael, 22, a member of the baseball team at Monmouth University, and Alyse, 19, a member of the women's golf team at Monmouth.
