Giants Coach & Player Initiatives

Tom Coughlin - The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation was established by Coach Tom Coughlin and named in honor of Jay McGillis, a young man who played for Coughlin at Boston College and lost his battle with Leukemia at the age of 21. Jay and his family set an example of courage and dignity that would forever leave its mark on those who knew him. The mission of the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation is to assist children with leukemia and other cancers and their families by providing emotional and financial support to improve their quality of life.  The foundation provides them with support to help reduce their stress so they may focus on the health of their children. The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation has donated over $1.6 million to help these families since it's inception in 1996 in Jacksonville, FL. In conjunction with his hiring as head coach of the New York Football Giants in 2004, Tom Coughlin has worked to expand his foundation to provide the same support to the children of the New York metropolitan area.  The Foundation hosts several fundraising events annually including a Wine Tasting Gala and Celebrity Golf Classic Tournament in Jacksonville and the "Pigskin Ball" in New York City.   Since 2005, Coughlin has partnered with New York Jets running back Curtis Martin to host the "Pigskin Ball," a dinner to kick-off football season which benefits the Jay Fund and Martin's charity of choice - the National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children's Foundation.  In addition to these events, Tom Coughlin regularly hosts special parties for pediatric oncology patients and children from the Make a Wish Foundation, granting children's wishes at Giants' Saturday practices throughout the year.

Adrian Awasom - Adrian hosts an annual football camp free of charge for kids in his hometown of Fort Bend, Texas.  The camp includes football instruction as well as a life skills presentation.

Plaxico Burress - Plaxico returns home to Virginia Beach, VA, every Thanksgiving to host a dinner for those in need in the community at his alma mater Green Run High School.

Will Demps - Will makes the holiday season special for 50 wonderful kids each year through his "Shop with a Jock" event.  Will picks up the kids along with his teammates and takes them on a shopping spree at Wal-Mart, ensuring that every child has several wonderful items to put under the tree.

David Diehl - David and his fellow lineman Rich Seubert have taken a special interest in the Ronald McDonald House of New York City, a temporary home for seriously ill children and their families to reside while undergoing treatment in area hospitals.  Together, they serve as Co-Chairs of the "Meet the Giants" fundraiser.  This annual event is held to raise funds for the Giants Room on the Sports Floor of the Ronald McDonald House located in New York City.  In 2007, they also created the first summer cookout at the house, bringing many players over for a day of barbeque and board games in the sun.

Reuben Droughns - The Reuben Droughns Foundation, Inc. provides academic scholarships for college education, recreational opportunities; including field renovation and equipment upgrades and development programs for inner-city youth and under-privileged children.  He is dedicated to providing an environment that is positive and caring, and his goal is to establish a learning and recreational center for children to be safe, have fun and improve their skill sets for future development.  The Reuben Droughns Foundation, Inc. was established in May 2006 and is a non-profit organization. 

Jeff Feagles - Jeff has worked with the Muscular Dystrophy Association in his hometown of Phoenix, AZ to run a celebrity golf tournament since 1991. The tournament raises hundreds of thousands of dollars each year for Phoenix-area families affected by neuromuscular diseases.

Sam Madison - Sam's Madison Avenue for Kids, Inc. reaches out to those youth and their families who are at-risk and who would otherwise not have exposure to the simplest things in life.  The goal of his foundation is to motivate and inspire at-risk youth and their families to achieve a better way of life through educational, social, and economic empowerment.

Eli Manning - Eli has become the Giants' leader in supporting the National Football League and American Heart Association's new campaign, What Moves U, a national youth movement and awareness initiative designed to promote physical fitness and healthy living to an increasingly inactive generation of children.  In addition, Eli is a member of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.  He also uses his time to champion the efforts of St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center and The March of Dimes, and has made a five year commitment to raise funds for the new "Eli Manning Children's Clinics" at the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children in Jackson, Mississippi. In 2005, Eli participated in airlifts of emergency supplies with his brother Eli to areas affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Kareem McKenzie - Kareem hosts an annual football camp free of charge for kids in his hometown of Willingboro, NJ, along with fellow NFL natives Shaun Phillips of the San Diego Chargers and Wali Lundy of the Houston Texans.  The three day camp includes football instruction as well as a life skills session.

Shaun O'Hara - This New Jersey native is truly a Giant in the community.  Shaun is constantly involved in community events around the tri-state area.  For his actions, Shaun was named the Giants 2005 Man of the Year, given to the player that exemplifies excellence on the field and in the community.  Shaun was also honored as the 2005 Hometown Hero during the United Way of NYC's "Gridiron Gala."

Antonio Pierce - In 2006, Antonio Pierce started "Antonio's A-List" at Giants Academy, the Giants charter academic program located in the Louise A. Spencer School in Newark, NJ.  Antonio's A-List is a motivational incentive program that will reward Giants Academy Students that reach certain academic standards each semester and for the entire school year. Giants Academy is a cooperative effort between the New York Giants and Communities in Schools of Newark to create a heightened learning environment for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in Spencer School who are designated as "at risk" students.  The program consists of approximately 50 students and focuses on improving math, reading, leadership skills, as well as social skills. Antonio also hosts an annual football camp for youth in his hometown of Compton, CA, completely free of charge. For his actions, Antonio was honored as the "2007 Hometown Hero" by The United Way of New York City.

Grey Ruegamer - Ruegy's Readers was developed by Grey Ruegamer, a Las Vegas native, in order to make a difference in the education of young people.  The mission is to create well-rounded students through literacy by providing additional support to public and private elementary school libraries. This new program will encourage kids to read more, increase the utilization of a school's library, and emphasize the significance of reading as a lifelong skill.

Jeremy Shockey - Jeremy is the Giants' spokesman for Rock and Wrap it Up!, a national, non-profit organization whose mission is to feed all those who hunger using safely recovered edible leftover food from arenas where major concerts and sporting events occur.

Chris Snee - Chris is highly involved with his hometown branch of the United Way in Susquehanna County, where he hosts an annual 4th of July Punt Pass and Kick event and parade. 

Michael Strahan - Michael is a champion of H.E.L.P., a non-profit organization that assists people in their efforts to return to the work force.  He also hosts an annual celebrity golf outing to raise money for the Supportive Children's Advocacy Network (SCAN), which aims to improve children's welfare through educational programming in East Harlem and the South Bronx.  Michael is involved with Restore America, a program established to handle the task of restoring historical buildings and homes to their original conditions.

Amani Toomer - In 2001, Amani Toomer founded the Amani Toomer Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to increasing the awareness of, and providing resources to after-school recreation programs in the New York metropolitan area.  The mission of the foundation is to identify established after- school programs in these underserved communities and assist them in furthering their efforts.  Through the foundation, he has constructed several new playgrounds in local under-served neighborhoods.  In February of 2004, Toomer joined the United Nations' World Food Program along with then Giants quarterback Kurt Warner, and Tony Richardson of the Minnesota Vikings, traveling to the tsunami-affected areas of Indonesia and Sri Lanka. For his contributions to the community, Toomer selected as the Giants' 2003 Man of the Year.  He was also honored by the United Way of NYC as the "2002 Hometown Hero."

David Tyree - A devout Christian and devoted community leader, Tyree has recently taken on a grass-roots ministry project called Next in Line.  Thinking globally and acting locally, he embarked on the endeavor with his wife, Leilah.  Next in Line opened its doors on March 31, 2006.  The Tyrees provide forums and church activities that began with a small group of parishioners that they see expanding as they develop the services further.  Tyree foresees after-school programs for underserved communities that can spark spirituality and provide holistic care.

Gibril Wilson - Gibril has adopted the Home for the Holidays program, started by Atlantic Falcons running back Warrick Dunn in 1997.  Homes for the Holidays acts as a helping hand for single mothers by providing the down payment on a new home. Area sponsors collaborate with "Homes for the Holidays" to furnish the homes with necessity contents such as furniture, food, linens, washers, dryers, and kitchen supplies.  Gibril plans on hosting his first Homes for the Holidays event in 2007.
