Markus Paul

Markus Paul, a former NFL player and a veteran coach in the league, is in his third season as the Giants' assistant strength and conditioning coach. Paul works closely with Jerry Palmieri to improve the size, strength and speed of the Giants' players.

Prior to joining the Giants, Paul spent two seasons on the coaching staff of the Jets, in 2005 as the Director of Physical Development and the following year as the head strength and conditioning coach.

Before his tenure with the Jets, Paul was the New England Patriots' assistant strength and conditioning coach. He worked under Mike Woicik, who has trained six Super Bowl championship teams. Paul owns three Super Bowl rings from the Patriots' titles in 2001, 2003 and 2004.

Paul's first NFL coaching position was as the New Orleans Saints' assistant strength and conditioning coach in 1998-99.

Paul played defensive back during his playing career and was the Chicago Bears' fourth-round draft choice in 1989. He played with the Bears until 1993, when he played one game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Paul played in 71 games with 30 starts at strong or free safety. He intercepted seven passes, which he returned for a total of 100 yards.

A four-year starter at Syracuse University, Paul holds the school record with 19 career interceptions. As a senior in 1988, he was credited with 76 tackles and was named first-team All-America by The Sporting News and Football News. Paul earned a bachelor of science degree in retailing.

Paul was born in Orlando, Fla. He and his wife, Patricia, have a son, Jairus, and a daughter, Tabitha.
