GIANTS NOTES:
- Jacobs rushed for 1,009 yards in 2007 to become the first Giants back other than Tiki Barber to rush for more than 1,000 yards since Gary Brown in 1998 (1,063). - Big, physical running back made important contributions in his first 2 seasons as a goal line and short-yardage back before stepping into the starter’s role last year. - In 2005, he became the 1st Giants rookie to score 7 touchdowns since 1984 and led the team with 9 touchdowns in 2006. - Was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for October.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
- Jacobs has played in 42 regular season games with 9 starts (all in 2007) and played in 6 postseason games with 4 starts (also last season). In the regular season, he has rushed for 1,531 yards on 336 carries (a 4.6-yard avg.) and 20 touchdowns. Jacobs has 34 receptions for 323 yards and 2 scores. - In postseason play, Jacobs has rushed for 205 yards on 64 carries (a 3.2-yard avg.) and 3 scores and added 4 catches for 29 yards and a score. - In 2007, he played in 11 regular season games with 9 starts and started all 4 postseason games. Jacobs rushed for 1,009 yards and 4 touchdowns on 202 carries, despite missing 5 games and most of a 6th with knee and hamstring injuries. Jacobs is the first Giants back other than Barber to rush for more than 1,000 yards since Brown in 1998 (1,063)…Rushed for at least 100 yards 5 times. - Jacobs’ 1,009 yards gave the Giants a 1,000-yard rusher for the 6th year in a row (Barber had the first 5). The San Diego Chargers are the only other NFL team with a 1,000-yard rusher each season since 2002. LaDainian Tomlinson had all the 1,000-yard efforts. - Jacobs combined with Plaxico Burress (1,025 receiving yards) to give the Giants a 1,000-yard rusher and receiver in the same season for the seventh time in their history. - During the 2007 postseason, Jacobs rushed for a touchdown in each of the Giants’ first two postseason victories and became the first Giant to run for a touchdown in consecutive postseason games since Ottis Anderson on Jan. 25, 1987 (Super Bowl XXI) and Jan. 7, 1990 (NFC Divisional Playoff Game)…Jacobs scored the Giants’ first 2 touchdowns at Tampa Bay on a 5-yard pass from Eli Manning and an 8-yard run to become the 1st Giant in history to score a rushing and a receiving touchdown in the same postseason game…Jacobs was the first Giants running back to catch a touchdown pass in a postseason game since fullback Greg Comella in the 2000 NFC Championship Game. Prior to that, the last Giants back with a postseason touchdown catch was Leon Bright at Philadelphia on Dec. 27, 1981. - Missed 3 games in September of 2007 with a knee injury suffered on opening night in Dallas, where he rushed for 26 yards on 6 carries. - Was named NFC Offensive Player of the Month for October. The Giants were 4-0 in October, scoring an NFC-high 112 points and leading the NFL with 705 rushing yards. Jacobs – and the offensive line that opened the holes for him – were key components to that success…Jacobs led the league with 424 rushing yards during the month. He set career highs three times with the first 3 100-yard games of his career. Jacobs averaged 5.7 yards on his 74 carries, caught 6 passes for 24 yards and scored 2 touchdowns in October. - Returned to action after missing three-plus games with a knee injury and rushed for 100 yards on 20 carries, including a 19-yard touchdown vs. Jets (10/07). It was the first 100-yard game of his career. Jacobs became the first Giant other than Tiki Barber to rush for 100 yards since Ron Dayne ran for 111 yards against New Orleans on Sept. 30, 2001. Barber had had the Giants’ previous 37 100-yard rushing games (including 1 in the postseason). - Missed games vs. Minnesota (11/25) and at Chicago (12/2) with a hamstring injury. - Finished with a career-high 145 yards on 24 carries with 2 touchdowns at Buffalo (12/23)…Scored twice in the 2nd quarter, on runs of 6 and 43 yards, the longest run of his career… Helped the Giants rush for 289 yards, their highest total since they rushed for 289 yards on Dec. 21, 1985 in a 28-10 victory over Pittsburgh…Rookie Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for 151 yards and a touchdown to give the Giants 2 100-yard rushers in the same game for the 1st time in their history. The Giants became the first team to have two runners with 140 or more yards in the same game since Nov. 11, 2001, when St. Louis’ Marshall Faulk ran for 183 yards and Trung Canidate added 145 in a game against Carolina. - In 2006, Jacobs played in 15 games (he suited up but did not play vs. New Orleans) and the NFC Wild Card Game at Philadelphia…Finished the season with 97 carries for 432 yards and a team-best 9 rushing touchdowns…Added 11 receptions for 149 yards, with a long catch of 43 yards. - Had 8 carries for a career-high 54 yards and a touchdown vs. Indianapolis (9/10)…His 1-yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter brought the Giants within 2 points of the Colts at 23-21. - Finished with a then career-high 11 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown at Atlanta (10/15). - Rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries at Dallas (10/23). - Had 5 carries for 29 yards and 2 receptions for 52 yards vs. Dallas (12/3)…Career-long 43 yard reception in the 4th quarter and helped set up Jay Feely’s 22-yard field goal to tie the game at 13-13. - Scored touchdowns on runs of 1 and 8 yards on his only 2 carries of the game vs. Chicago (11/12). - Played in all 16 games as a rookie in 2005, when he was used primarily in short-yardage and goal-line situations and on special teams…Finished the season with 38 carries for 99 yards and 7 touchdowns, with a long run of 21 yards…Converted 20 of 32 opportunities on rushing attempts of 4 or less yards to go. - Jacobs was the first Giants rookie to score 7 touchdowns since Bobby Johnson in 1984 and the first to rush for 7 touchdowns since Bill Paschal ran for 10 scores in 1943. - Scored touchdowns in each of his first 2 games, the 1st Giants rookie to accomplish that feat since Barber in 1997. Scored on a 5-yard vs. Arizona (9/11) and a 1-yard run at New Orleans (9/19). - Carried 6 times for season-high 39 yards and a touchdown in his NFL debut vs. the Cardinals.
COLLEGE:
- Played at 3 schools: Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College, Auburn and Southern Illinois. In 42 games at the 3 stops, he rushed for 4,003 yards with 52 touchdowns on 595 carries (6.7-yard avg.), caught 12 passes for 136 yards (11.3-yard avg.) and returned 6 kickoffs for 140 yards (23.3-yard avg.). - Jacobs was perhaps the most highly-touted transfer in Southern Illinois history. He joined fellow transfers Terry Jackson (Minnesota) and Arkee Whitlock (Coffeyville) to form one of the most explosive backfields in college football, one that accounted for 42 of the team's 65 touchdowns and 3,404 of the squad's 6,032 yards in total offense in 2004, his only season with the Salukis. - Began his collegiate career in 2001 at Coffeyville, where he rushed for 927 yards and 13 touchdowns on 130 carries (7.1-yard avg.) in 10 regular season games, then added 422 yards and 4 scores in playoff action en route to being named to the All-Jayhawk Conference team. The following year, Jacobs led the conference in rushing with 1,638 yards and 17 touchdowns on 243 carries (6.7-yard avg.), and added another 258 yards and 3 scores on 24 carries in the playoffs. - In 2003 at Auburn, when he shared time at halfback with Ronnie Brown and Carnell Williams, who became 2 of the top 9 picks in the 2005 draft. He was 2nd on the team with 72 carries for 446 yards (6.2-yard avg.) and 3 touchdowns. - Hoping to get an opportunity for more playing time, Jacobs again transferred, this time to Southern Illinois. In his one season there, Jacobs rushed for 922 yards and 19 touchdowns on 150 carries, averages of 6.6 yards a carry and 122.1 yards a game.
OFF-THE-FIELD ACTIVITY:
- Visited the I.S. 285 School in Brooklyn, NY, where he led kids in an NFL fitness clinic. - Thanked firefighters from Englewood, NJ, for their daily commitment to our community with a visit as part of the Giants annual “Adopt a Firehouse” program. - Visited George Washington High School in Manhattan on behalf of the American Dairy Association, encouraging students to eat a healthy breakfast and exercise. - Attended the “Taste of the NY Giants” fundraiser dinner at Giants Stadium. - Joined teammates to visit wounded soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, in Washington, D.C. prior to making the Super Bowl trip to the White House. - Greeted fans and signed autographs at the Giants’ 2008 Draft Day Party at Giants Stadium. - Participated in the Athletes in Action youth football clinic at Giants Stadium. - Attended the “Pigskin Ball” dinner, benefitting Coach Coughlin’s Jay Fund Foundation. - Signed autographs and greeted fans at Big Blue Travel’s “Giants Wrap-Up Breakfast.” - Greeted fans and signed autographs at the Giants’ 2007 Draft Day Party at Giants Stadium. - Participated in the Giants’ Player Development High School Coaching Program, working regularly with J.F.K. High School (Paterson, NJ).
PERSONAL:
- Married (Kim) with son Brayden Kenneth. - Standout running back at Assumption High School who led the team to the Class 4A state semi-finals as a senior, earning USA Today All-America, Orlando Sentinel All-Southern, Prep Star All-Region and Most Valuable Offensive Player of the Class 4A all-state team recognition. As a senior, he gained 3,022 yards and 38 touchdowns, averaging 8.6 yards per carry…Rushed for 1,783 yards and 18 touchdowns and caught 3 passes for 50 yards and a score as a junior…During his last 2 prep seasons, he also returned eight kicks for touchdowns…Also lettered in basketball. - Sociology major. - Son of Janice Jacobs…Guardian is Diane Cheavious.
