It was the 2nd sack of Madison’s career and his 1st since since Dec. 6, 1998, when he played for Miami and took Oakland quarterback Donald Hollas to the ground. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Madison’s stretch of eight years, 361 days between sacks is the longest since sacks became an official statistic in 1982 (including half-sacks). Previously, the longest time between sacks by 1 player was 7 years, 355 days by Marcus Robertson, a safety for the Houston Oilers (then Tennessee Titans) and Seattle Seahawks who played 12 NFL seasons. Robertson had 1 sack as a rookie with the Oilers in 1991, then a half-sack with the Titans in 1999. - Finished with 3 solo tackles and recovered a Brian Westbrook fumble at Philadelphia (12/9). - Intercepted Trent Edwards and returned the ball 27 yards late in the 4th quarter at Buffalo (12/23). - Saw action in nickel and dime packages in Super Bowl XXLII vs. New England (2/3) and finished with 3 tackles (2 solo) and 1 pass defensed…Broke up a Tom Brady attempt to Wes Welker on 3rd-and-7 in the 4th quarter to force a punt. - In 2006, started all 12 regular season games in which he played and the NFC Wild Card Game at right cornerback…Missed 4 games with a hamstring injury…Finished with 44 tackles (34 solo), 2 interceptions, 8 passes defensed and 1 fumble recovery. - Finished with 6 solo tackles and 3 passes defensed At Philadelphia (9/17)…Made a game-saving open-field tackle of Thomas Tapeh in the 4th quarter to force a punt and set up the Giants game-tying drive. - Contributed 2 solo tackles, 1 interception, 2 passes defensed and 1 fumble recovery at Atlanta (10/15)…Intercepted a Michael Vick pass in the 1st quarter and returned it 24 yards…Recovered a Vick fumble later in the 1st quarter…Broke up a Vick attempt to Ashley Lelie in the 4th quarter to end the game. - Intercepted a Drew Bledsoe pass at the 1-yard line At Dallas (10/23), his 2nd pick in as many weeks and the 33rd of his career. That tied Madison with his former Miami Dolphins teammate, Patrick Surtain, for 6th among active players. - In 2005, started all 15 games in which he played at right cornerback in his final season in Miami… Inactive at New Orleans (10/30) due to a hip injury, breaking his streak of 59 consecutive games played…Finished the season with 59 tackles, 2 interceptions and 12 passes defensed. - Had 3 tackles and 1 interception vs. Tennessee (12/24). Intercepted a Steve McNair pass intended for Drew Bennett in the 2nd quarter, setting up a Gus Frerotte touchdown pass to Chris Chambers. It was Madison’s 5th interception off McNair, whom he has picked off more than any other quarterback. - Recorded 2 tackles and 1 interception vs. Buffalo (12/4)…Picked off a J.P. Losman pass and returned it 11 yards. - In 2004, started all 16 games for the 3rd year in a row, 15 at right cornerback and one on the left side…Registered 60 tackles, 3 forced fumbles and 9 passes defensed, which ranked 3rd on the club…Was an integral part of a defense that ranked 1st in the AFC and 2nd in the NFL in pass defense (162.0 yards per game)…Since Madison became a full-time starter in 1998 through the 2004 season, the Dolphins finished lower than 8th in the NFL in pass defense just once (19th in 2003). - Made the 100th start of his NFL career in game vs. Jets (10/3). - In Dolphins’ 1st win of the season, a 31-14 decision over St. Louis (10/24), Madison helped limit the Rams’ explosive offense to 269 net passing yards, including just 6 receptions for 102 yards combined for the starting receiving duo of Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt (1 for 4 yards for Holt). - Forced a Mack Strong fumble at Seattle (11/21). The ball was recovered by Jason Taylor at the Seattle 35 and led to A.J. Feeley’s 7-yard touchdown run 6 plays later. - Started all 16 games at right cornerback in 2003…Posted 55 tackles (50 solo), three interceptions for 82 yards and 1 touchdown, 2 fumble recoveries and 14 passes defensed, which placed him 2nd on the team. - Had his best game of the 2003 season at Jacksonville (10/12) with the 6th multiple-interception game of his career…Picked off 2 Byron Leftwich passes for 46 yards in returns. Also recovered a fumble when Sammy Knight forced the ball loose from Fred Taylor on the game’s 3rd play from scrimmage and Madison recovered at the Jaguars’ 41, leading to a Ricky Williams touchdown run 6 plays later. Intercepted his 1st pass of the season later in the opening half when the Jaguars were at midfield. With the Dolphins leading 17-10 and the Jaguars at their own 16 with 1:28 to play, Madison picked off another Leftwich pass and returned it 29 yards for a score to put the game out of reach. It was the 2nd interception return for a touchdown in his career and 1st since Dec. 5, 1999 against Indianapolis, when he picked off a Peyton Manning pass and returned it 21 yards for a score. His interception return in the Jaguars game marked the 3rd touchdown of his career, including a 20-yard fumble return for a score on Oct. 8, 2000 vs. Buffalo. Also had 7 tackles and 4 passes defensed in the Jaguars contest. - Had a 36-yard interception return of an Anthony Wright pass which led to a field goal in a 9-6 overtime win over Baltimore (11/16). It was the 29th interception of his career. - Started all 16 games at right cornerback in 2002 and was selected as a Pro Bowl alternate…Made the AFC squad after teammate Patrick Surtain could not play because of a knee injury…Registered 31 tackles (27 solo), 3 interceptions for 15 yards and a team-high 14 passes defensed. - Picked off a Tom Brady pass for his 1st interception of the year vs. New England (10/6/02). Also defensed two passes in the Dolphins’ victory over the defending Super Bowl champion Patriots. - Posted a season-high 5 tackles and picked off Brian Griese pass, which he returned 15 yards, at Denver (10/13). The interception occurred on the 1st series of the 4th quarter. Madison returned it to the Dolphins’ 48, setting up Ricky Williams’ 2-yard touchdown run. The interception was his 25th as a Dolphin, moving him ahead of Louis Oliver and William Judson into sole possession of 4th place on the Dolphins’ career list. It also was one of a season-high 5 passes defensed for Madison, which helped earn him a defensive game ball. - Collected 4 tackles and intercepted a Daunte Culpepper pass at Minnesota (12/21). - Started all 13 regular season games in which he played and the AFC Wild Card Game at right cornerback in 2001…Was inactive for 3 contests…Voted as a starter on the AFC Pro Bowl team for the 3rd year in a row, but did not play in the game because of a shoulder injury…Madison and Zach Thomas were Miami’s defensive co-captains…Finished the year with 30 tackles (23 solo), 2 interceptions and 13 passes defensed…A key component on the NFL’s top-ranked defense, which yielded an average of only 176.8 yards a contest. - Registered a season-high 6 tackles in opener at Tennessee (9/9), when he also intercepted a Steve McNair pass. - Second interception of the 2001 season came in the 2nd quarter at Indianapolis (11/11), where he picked off a Peyton Manning pass at the Dolphins’ 3. - Sam’s foundation, Madison Avenue for Kids, Inc. reaches out to those youth and their families who are at-risk and who would otherwise not have exposure to the simplest things in life. The goal of his foundation is to motivate and inspire at-risk youth and their families to achieve a better way of life through educational, social, and economic empowerment. - Spoke to attendees of “Youth Day” at Giants’ training camp about the importance of physical fitness and active play everyday, as well as the value of hard work. - Attended a fundraiser dinner on behalf of Life Athletes. - Joined teammates to visit wounded soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, in Washington, D.C. prior to the Super Bowl champions’ trip to the White House. - Attended the Giants’ annual fundraiser dinner benefitting The Ronald McDonald House of NYC. - Attended the “Pigskin Ball” dinner, benefitting Coach Coughlin’s Jay Fund Foundation. - Joined numerous teammates at the Ronald McDonald House of NYC for a summer barbeque with the kids and their families.
