CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
- Has played in 24 regular season games and 5 postseason games, with most of his action coming on special teams. - In 2007, played in all 16 regular season games and 4 postseason games on special teams and as an extra lineman is short yardage situations…Replaced RT Kareem McKenzie in the 4th quarter vs. Minnesota (11/25)…Replaced LT David Diehl in the fourth quarter when Diehl left the game with heat cramps at Tampa Bay in the NFC Wild Card Game (1/6/08) - As a rookie in 2006, played in 8 regular season games and the NFC Wild Card game at Philadelphia (1/7) with all of his action coming on special teams. - Was inactive for the 1st 8 games of the season…Made his NFL debut vs. Chicago (11/12) and played on special teams.
COLLEGE:
- Played in 45 games with 26 starts at East Carolina. - Versatile performer played outside linebacker, defensive end, tight end and both offensive tackle positions in his career. - Recorded 52 tackles (28 solo) with 2 sacks for minus 16 yards and 8 stops for losses of 29 yards. He recovered 2 fumbles, returning both for a total of 10 yards and a touchdown….Also forced 1 fumble and batted away 2 passes. - At tight end, he caught 7 passes for 122 yards (17.4-yard avg.) and produced 32 knockdown blocks while allowing only 1 quarterback sack and 4 pressures. - As a freshman in 2002, played in 11 games as a reserve outside linebacker and recorded 17 tackles (13 solo) with a sack, 3 stops for losses and a forced fumble. Was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team. - In 2003, Whimper played in 12 games with 8 starts at defensive end and one game at the Bandit (rush end) position…Posted 27 tackles (11 solo), a sack, 5 stops behind the line of scrimmage and a fumble recovery. - Began the 2004 season as a defensive end, but moved to tight end in Game 3 vs. Cincinnati and started the final 7 contests…Finished with 7 receptions for 122 yards (17.4-yard avg.) and recorded 7 tackles (3 solo). - In 2005, became the starting left tackle in the second game before shifting to the right side for the rest of the season. Registered 32 knockdown blocks, made a solo tackle and recovered a fumble. - Super Sleeper Team and All-Conference USA 2nd-team choice by The NFL Draft Report in 2005.
OFF-THE-FIELD ACTIVITY:
- Participated in the Athletes in Action youth football clinic at Giants Stadium. - Attended the Giants’ annual fundraiser dinner benefitting The Ronald McDonald House of NYC. - Joined numerous teammates at the Ronald McDonald House of NYC for a summer barbeque with the kids and their families. - Joined teammates to visit wounded soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, in Washington, D.C. prior to the Super Bowl champions’ trip to the White House. - Participated in the Giants’ Player Development High School Coaching Program, working regularly with St. Anthony’s High School (Jersey City, N.J.).
PERSONAL:
- Attended Havelock (N.C.) High School, where he was rated by Prep Atlantic as 14th-best prospect in the state as a senior - All-Conference performer as a defensive end, registering 87 tackles and 8 sacks. - Also had 14 receptions for 331 yards and 5 touchdowns as a tight end…Caught 29 passes and scored 9 touchdowns as a sophomore. - Lettered 3 seasons, helping the team compile a combined 27-7 record and advance to the state playoffs each year… Also lettered in track and basketball. - Communications major - Son of Guy and June Whimper. - Born May 21, 1983 in Honolulu.
