Originally a 2nd round (51st pick overall) draft choice by the Giants in 2007.

 

GIANTS NOTE:

 

-           Smith made 1 of the biggest plays of the Giants’ season when he caught a short Eli Manning pass and turned it into a 12-yard gain and a first down on a 3rd-and-11 in the waning moments of Super Bowl XLII. On the next play, Manning threw the 13-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress that gave the Giants their upset victory over New England.

 

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:

 

-           As a rookie in 2007, he played in 5 regular season games an all 4 postseason games…Was inactive for 11 games with a fractured scapula suffered vs. Green Bay (9/16) and then with a hamstring injury)…Returned to action vs. Washington (12/16).

-           Finished the regular season with 8 receptions for 63 yards…Was outstanding in the postseason, when he caught 14 passes for 152 yards.

-           Caught his first 3 NFL passes at Dallas (9/9).

-           Recorded 3 receptions for 29 yards in action as the 3rd receiver at Tampa Bay in the NFC Wild Card Game (1/6)…His 21-yard reception on 3-and-1 in the 2nd quarter helped set up the Brandon Jacobs’ 8-yard touchdown run.

-           Finished tied for the team lead with 4 catches for 48 yards at Dallas in the NFC Divisional Playoff Game (1/13)…Had 22 and 11-yard reception came on consecutive plays on the Giants’ 2-minute drive before the half that resulted in Amani Toomer’s 4-yard touchdown reception that tied the game 14-14 at halftime…Smith’s 11-yard reception on 3rd-and-6 in the 4th quarter extended a drive that resulted in Jacobs’ 1-yard touchdown that gave the Giants a 21-17 lead.

-           Caught 2 passes for 25 yards in the NFC Championship Game at Green Bay (1/20).

-           Contributed 5 receptions for 50 yards with a long catch of 17 yards in Super Bowl XXLII vs. New England (2/3)…Converted two 3rd downs with receptions of 8 and 9 yards on the Giants’ 1st drive to help set up a Lawrence Tynes’ 32-yard field goal…Smith’s 17-yard reception on 3rd-and-4 extended a drive that resulted in David Tyree 5-yard touchdown…His key 12-yard catch on 3rd-and-11 set up Manning’s 13-yard game-winning touchdown pass to Burress.
