TRANSACTIONS:

-           Originally a 1st round (14th pick overall) draft choice by the Giants in 2002.

GIANTS NOTES:

-           Entered NFL draft after junior season at Miami.
-           The Giants traded up 1 spot in the 2002 NFL Draft to obtain Shockey with the 14th pick. They traded their 1st-round pick (No. 15) and their 4th-round pick (No. 110) to the Tennessee Titans, who owned the 14th pick.
-           Was selected to 4 Pro Bowls in his first 6 seasons, the most ever by a Giants tight end.
-           Shockey was the 1st Giant voted to the Pro Bowl in each of his 1st 2 NFL seasons since Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor in 1981-82.
-           His 74 receptions in 2002 set franchise records for rookies and tight ends.
-           Shockey’s 371 receptions place him 4th on the Giants career list and 1st among the franchise’s tight ends (Bob Tucker, No. 8 overall, is 2nd among tight ends with 327). He is 2nd among active tight ends, trailing only Kansas City’s Tony Gonzalez (820)
-           Shockey’s 4,228 receiving yards place him 3rd among Giants tight ends, behind Tucker (4,376) and Aaron Thomas (4,253). At the end of the 2007 season he was 4th among active tight ends, behind Gonzalez (9,882), Antonio Gates (4,362) and Marcus Pollard (4,280).
-           Shockey’s 27 career touchdown receptions place him 3rd among Giants tight ends, behind Thomas (35) and Bavaro (28).
-           Shockey has caught at least one pass in 83 consecutive games in which he’s played, the second-longest active streak among tight ends, behind Gonzalez (115).

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:

-           Shockey has played in 83 regular season games with 82 starts and started all 3 postseason games in which he has played…His career totals include 371 receptions (placing him 4th on the Giants’ career list) for 4,228 yards (12th in team history) and 27 touchdowns (putting him in a 4-way tie for 10th)…In postseason play, he has 13 catches for 143 yards and 1 score.
-           In 2004, he started each of the first 14 games before suffering a fractured left fibula vs. Washington (12/16) which required surgery and sidelined him for the remainder of the season and the entire postseason… It was the 5th season in a row he sat out the regular season finale with an injury.
-          Finished 3rd on the team with 57 catches for 619 yards…Had at least 4 catches in a game 8 times…Shockey’s 3 touchdown receptions tied Amani Toomer for 2nd on the Giants, behind Plaxico Burress.
-           Had 5 receptions for 79 yards in the Giants’ 1st victory of the season at Washington (9/23). His 21-yard catch in the 3rd quarter put the ball at the 1-yard line and set up Reuben Droughns’ 1-yard touchdown run.
-           Scored his 1st touchdown of the season vs. the Jets (10/7) on 13-yard pass from Eli Manning.
-           Caught 5 passes for 39 yards, including a 2-yard touchdown, vs. San Francisco (10/21).
 -          Finished with a career-high 12 catches passes and tied a career best with 129 yards vs. Dallas (11/11). It was the 6th time in his career he had at least 10 catches in a game…Scored the Giants’ 1st touchdown on an 8-yard reception…His previous best single-game total was 11 receptions, which he had twice: Nov. 17, 2002 vs. Washington and Oct. 5, 2003 vs. Miami. He gained 129 yards (on just 5 catches) at Dallas on Oct. 16, 2005. It was the eighth 100-yard game of Shockey’s career and increased his career yardage total to 4,096 yards. He became the 12th player in Giants history with 4,000 receiving yards…The touchdown catch was the 27th of his career, tying him with Earnest Gray, Chris Calloway and Ike Hilliard for 9th place on the franchise’s career list.
-           In 2006, Shockey started all 15 regular season games in which he played and the NFC Wild Card Game. He was inactive at Washington (12/30) with an ankle injury.
-           Led the Giants with 66 receptions, the 2nd-highest total of his career. They accounted for 623 yards and 7 touchdowns, tying the career high he set in 2005. He added 3 catches for 25 yards in the NFC Wild Card Game at Philadelphia (1/7).
-           Shockey was selected to the Pro Bowl for the 4th time in his 5-year career, though he was unable to play in the game because of the ankle injury that kept him out of the regular season finale in Washington
-           Finished with a team-high and tied his season high with 8 receptions for 70 yards vs. Philadelphia (12/17). His 14-yard catch late in the 2nd quarter helped set up Jay Feely’s 47-yard field goal.
-           Finished with a team-high 6 receptions for 55 yards and 2 touchdowns at Atlanta (10/15)…His 2-yard touchdown catch in the 3rd quarter gave the Giants a 17-14 lead…A 10-yard reception in the 4th quarter converted a 3rd-and-4 to extend a drive that would result in his 2nd touchdown of the game, a 4-yarder.
-           In 2005, he started all 15 regular season games in which he played, plus the NFC Wild Card Game vs. Carolina. Inactive due to ankle injury at Oakland (12/31)
-           Shockey’s 65 catches and 891 yards placed him 2nd on the team behind Plaxico Burress in both categories and his 7 touchdown receptions tied Burress and Amani Toomer for the team lead.
-           Became the second-fastest tight end in NFL history with 200 receptions when he reached that mark in his 43rd game, behind only Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow (39 games).
-           Was selected to the Pro Bowl for the 3rd time in his 4-year career, the most ever by a Giants tight end (he did not play in the game because of an ankle injury).
-           Tied a season high with team best-10 receptions for 107 yards at Philadelphia (12/11). It was the 4th time in his career he has had at least 10 catches in a game. The 100-yard game was his 4th of the season and the 7th of his career.
-           In 2004, Shockey started all 15 games in which he played. Did not play in the season finale vs. Dallas (1/2) because of a back injury…Led the team with 61 receptions for 666 yards and 6 touchdowns…Became the first tight end to lead the team in receptions since Mark Bavaro in 1987 (55).
-           In 2003, started all 9 games in which he played and was selected to his 2nd Pro Bowl despite missing the season’s final 7 games with a knee injury…Finished 4th on the Giants and 6th among NFL tight ends with 48 catches for 535 yards and 2 touchdowns.
-           Tied his career high with 11 receptions for 110 yards vs. Miami (10/5). It was his 3rd career 100-yard game.
-           As a rookie in 2002, played in 15 regular season games with 14 starts and started the NFC Wild Card Game at San Francisco.
-           Voted Pepsi Rookie of the Year in balloting by NFL fans.
-           Selected 1st-team All-Pro by the Associated Press, Sports Illustrated, College & Pro Football Newsweekly and Football Digest.
-           Voted to NFL All-Rookie team by Pro Football Weekly.
-           Selected to All-NFC team by Pro Football Weekly.
-           Caught 74 passes for 894 yards and 2 touchdowns…The 74 catches was the 5th-highest total in Giants history, a team record for both rookies (shattering the mark of 48 set by Bobby Johnson in 1984) and tight ends (eclipsing the 66 passes Mark Bavaro caught in 1986). The 74 receptions were the 2nd-most ever for an NFL rookie tight end (Philadelphia’s Keith Jackson had 81 catches in 1988).
-           Accounted for 894 receiving yards, the most by a Giants tight end since Bavaro had 1,001 in 1986 and the 2nd-most in history by a 1st-year player at his position. The rookie receiving yardage record of 1,076 was set by Hall of Famer Mike Ditka of Chicago in 1961
-           Named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 17 and the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for both November and December
-           Won the NFC Player of the Week award in the season finale vs. Philadelphia (12/28) when he caught 10 passes for 98 yards. Scored the Giants only touchdown in the 4th period when he jumped, moving backwards, and ripped the ball away from Philadelphia’s Pro Bowl safety Brian Dawkins in the end zone.
-           Shockey’s 1st career reception went for 9 yards vs. San Francisco (9/5)…Scored his 1st touchdown on a 28-yard pass from Kerry Collins at St. Louis (9/15)…Played but did not start for the only time in his career at Philadelphia (10/28), but led the team with 6 catches for 69 yards.
