TRANSACTIONS:
Originally a 1st round (32nd pick overall) draft choice by the Giants in 2012.

GIANTS NOTE:
In 2012, David Wilson set a Giants record with 1,533 kickoff return yards, easily breaking the former mark of 1,291, set by Domenik Hixon in 2009. Wilson accounted for a Giants-record all-purpose 327 yards (227 on kickoff returns, 100 rushing) vs. New Orleans on Dec. 9.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
As a rookie in 2012, Wilson played in all 16 games with 2 starts…He had 57 of the Giants’ 63 kickoff returns for 1,533 yards (26.9-yard avg.) and a touchdown. The 1,533 kickoff return yards set a Giants record, breaking the former mark of 1,291, set by Domenik Hixon in 2009…After just 1 season, Wilson is 8th on the Giants’ career list with his 1,533 yards…Wilson’s 57 returns tied the team record Hixon set in 2009.

Wilson also rushed for 358 yards (3rd on the team) and 4 touchdowns and caught 4 passes for 34 yards and a score. His 1,925 all-purpose yards were the most ever by a Giants rookie and the most for any Giant since Tiki Barber had 2,127 in 2006…Wilson had the 2nd-highest yardage total by an NFL rookie in 2012; he finished just 1 yard behind Tampa Bay’s Doug Martin – who was selected immediately prior to Wilson in the 2012 NFL Draft – who had 1,926 total yards.

Made his NFL debut with 4 rushing yards on 2 carries and 3 kickoff returns for 71 yards vs. Dallas (9/5)…Returned 6 kickoffs for 217 yards (36.2-yard avg.) at Philadelphia (9/30)…Scored his 1st pro touchdown on a 40-yard run vs. Cleveland (10/7).

Wilson had 1 of the NFL’s most dominant 1-man performances vs. New Orleans (12/9), which earned him the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week award (the 1st Giants kickoff returner to win the award since David Meggett in Week 1 in 1994). He accounted for a Giants-record all-purpose 327 yards (227 on kickoff returns, 100 rushing) vs. the Saints. He was the 1st Giants player since Joe Scott in 1948 to score rushing and kickoff return touchdowns in the same game and the first player in NFL history with at least 200 kickoff return yards and 100 rushing yards in the same game.

Wilson was the 4rth player in league history with 2 rushing touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown in the same game. The others were Washington’s Andy Farkas in 1939, Philadelphia’s Steve Van Buren in 1945 and Jacksonville’s Maurice Jones-Drew in 2006.

Wilson scored on a 97-yard kickoff return and had other returns of 58 and 52 yards. He also rushed for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns. His 327 total yards broke the former mark of 303 set by Hixon at New Orleans on Oct. 18, 2009. Hixon’s breakdown was 230 yards on kickoff returns, 51 on punt returns and 22 on receptions.

Wilson’s 227 kickoff return yards (on 4 runbacks) was the 3rd-highest single-game total in Giants history, surpassed only by Willie Ponder’s 259 yards vs. Pittsburgh on Dec. 18, 2004 and Hixon’s 230 yards at New Orleans in 2009…The 227 kickoff return yards were the most by an NFL player in a game in 2012.

Wilson averaged 56.8 yards per return, the highest total ever by a Giant with at least 3 returns in a game. The previous record of 51.8 yards was set by Scott on four returns vs. the Rams on Nov. 14, 1948.

Wilson scored the Giants’ 1st touchdown on his 97-yard kickoff return in the 1st quarter. It was the Giants’ 1st kickoff return touchdown since Hixon’s 74-yarder vs. New England on Dec. 29, 2007. The Giants had played 76 regular season and 9 postseason games between kickoff return touchdowns.

It was the 20th regular-season kickoff return touchdown in the 88-season history of the Giants. They also have 2 postseason scores on kickoff returns…Seventeen different players have scored on regular-season kickoff returns for the Giants, beginning with Jack Hagerty vs. the Buffalo Bisons on Nov. 5, 1929. Clarence Childs, Rocky Thompson and Willie Ponder all did it twice (plus Ron Dixon, who returned 2 kickoffs for touchdowns in the 2000 postseason).

Wilson’s 97-yard return was the longest by a Giant in the regular season since Childs’ 100-yard runback on Dec. 6, 1964. Both of Dixon’s postseason kickoff returns touchdowns were 97 yards. Childs shares the Giants’ record for longest runback with Hall of Famer Emlen Tunnell, who had a 100-return against the New York Yankees on Nov. 4, 1951.

On Nov. 14, 1948, Scott scored on a 9-yard run and a 99-yard kickoff return. He was the last Giant with a rushing touchdown and kickoff return touchdown in the same game until Wilson did it against the Saints. But Scott went one better. He also caught a 19-yard touchdown pass in a 52-37 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Scott is the only player in Giants history with rushing, receiving and kickoff return touchdowns in the same game.

Wilson got his 1st career start at Atlanta (12/16)…Also started vs. Philadelphia (12/30), when he had a season-high 15 rushing attempts (for 75 yards) and caught his 1st career touchdown pass, a 15-yarder. He scored touchdowns rushing, receiving and on a kickoff return in 2012, the 1st Giant to do so since Scott in 1948.

Spiller of Clemson (record 2,680 in 2009), Thomas Jones of Virginia (2,054 in 1999) and Don McCauley of North Carolina (2,021 in 1970)…Ranks 2nd in school history with 61 kickoff returns, topped by only Jon Jeffries (67; 1987-91)…Set the school single-season record by returning 2 kickoffs for touchdowns in 2010 (also tied the Tech career record that he shares with Terry Strock 1959-61)…Placed 4th on the school’s career list with 1,324 kickoff return yards.
