Biography

Matt Shauger is in his 13th season with the Giants, and fifth as team’s assistant director of pro personnel. He was promoted to his current position in May 2013 after spending the previous seven seasons as a pro scout.  He originally joined the club in June 2005 as a pro personnel intern.

Shauger’s primary duties include film study of active NFL players and evaluation of free agents, coordinating the schedule of the team’s pro scouting department and management of the club’s pro scouting database. During the season, he assists the coaching staff with advance scouting of upcoming opponents, including their personnel and tendencies.  He contributed to both the Super Bowl XLII and XLVI championship teams.

Shauger began his pro football career in Europe in 2003 as an assistant in the former NFL International Scouting. Based in the league’s international headquarters in London, Shauger aided in the identification and development of non-U.S. playing talent while researching and formulating strategies for globally expanding American football.

Shauger earned a B.S. degree in business administration and sport management from Seton Hall University in 2002. He and his wife, novelist Lisa Van Allen, have a daughter, Evelyn, and reside in Wayne, N.J
