Biography

Steve Malin is in his 15th season as a member of the Giants’ scouting staff.

Prior to joining the Giants, Malin spent the 2000 season as a regional scout in the XFL. Before that, he was a defensive assistant coach for six seasons at Southern Methodist University, where his players included defensive end Luke Johnson, a 1997 All-Western Athletic Conference Mountain Division player, and linebacker Craig Swann, who earned first-team All-Southwest Conference honors in 1995 and 1996.

Malin began his coaching career at East Texas State University in 1993. He moved to SMU as a graduate assistant in 1994. Malin coached the inside linebackers in 1995 and 1996 and the defensive line from 1997-99.

Malin began his playing career at West Texas State University, where he was a tight end in 1989-90, before transferring to East Texas State where he was a linebacker, tight end and offensive tackle in 1991-92.

A native of Texas, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology. Malin holds a master’s degree in liberal arts from SMU.

Malin and his wife, Stacey, have 13-year-old twins: son Tyler and daughter, Taylor, a son, Trey (9) and daughters, Trinity Reese (1) and Tru Rivers (1).
