Verderosa began his collegiate career at Central Iowa as a wide receiver and punter after graduating from Melville High School in Setauket, N.Y. He then moved to New York Institute of Technology, where he continued his dual roles.
After receiving a degree in general architecture and a design award in his senior year, Verderosa had a tryout with the Washington Redskins as a wide receiver and punter in 1977. He also had a stint with the Cleveland Browns as a punter in the 1978 preseason.
Verderosa worked for one year as an architectural draftsman before getting the urge to return to football and began a coaching career as an offensive assistant at his alma mater, New York Tech. He then spent two seasons as a coach at St. Anthony’s High School before landing a spot as defensive backfield coach at Columbia University. From there, he moved on to C.W. Post for four years as secondary coach and then joined the scouting department of the Buccaneers.
Verderosa was born in Roslyn, Long Island. He is married to the former Lori Ann Felicetti. The Verderosas reside in Apex, North Carolina with two sons, Alex and Matthew, and one daughter, Mikala.
