Who stood out at Giants OTAs? (5/24)

The New York Giants held their third of 10 OTA practices on Tuesday at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. Here are the standouts from OTA No. 3:

QB ELI MANNING: The franchise quarterback headlines this list for the umpteenth time (second in a row) after throwing three touchdowns, in addition to leading a winning two-minute drill. Manning started off with scores to second-year tight end Evan Engram and new wide receiver Cody Latimer, a former second-round draft pick by Denver who signed with the Giants this offseason. He then hit wide receiver Hunter Sharp (more on him later) before it was time for the two-minute drill with the first unit. Manning found wide receiver Sterling Shepard, who made a great play on the ball, and Engram to set up a manageable "game-winning" field goal.

"It's really fun to work with Eli because he's a true pro," coach Pat Shurmur said this week on WFAN. "He gets it, you don't really have to go through a long litany of reasons why you want to do something, and he can talk with you about it and say, 'Hey, maybe this will make it better.' So [offensive coordinator] Mike [Shula] and I were just talking about what a joy it is to have a pro like Eli who can still play. Trust me, he can still play based on what I've seen so far."

TE EVAN ENGRAM: Engram was one of the most productive tight ends in the NFL last season, let alone rookies. Named to the 2017 All-Rookie Team by the Pro Football Writers of America, Engram is looking to advance his game in Year 2 and showed off what he has been working on today with the early goal-line touchdown before setting up the field goal in the two-minute drill.

"He can get going now," Shurmur said on WFAN. "He's hard to keep up with when he gets running, and I feel like he's done a good job catching the ball. I think he and Eli are getting on the same page with regard to their routes. There's not enough physicality in this time of year for most coaches, but he's working hard on his blocking and so I'm looking forward to seeing him in action. Again, he is a very dialed-in guy with great attention to detail. So it would make sense for us to throw it to him."

CB DONTE DEAYON: While the offense was on fire early on, Deayon cooled it down a bit with a nice interception in the front corner of the end zone during more red-zone drills. Second-year quarterback Davis Webb knew right when he released the ball that it was a bad idea. Deayon capitalized.

WR ROGER LEWIS: A few periods before the interception, Webb found Lewis in the back corner of the end zone during goal-line work. It was the catch of the day offensively – it was a close call between that one and Shepard's snag during the two-minute drill – and a good outing for Lewis, who is part of a competition for reps among the receivers.

WR HUNTER SHARP: Speaking of working up in the pecking order, Sharp continues to make plays this spring and caught a touchdown from Manning. Sharp had a big outing on Tuesday with a handful of catches, including a long one from Manning with cornerback Janoris Jenkins in coverage. Sharp spent time with the Eagles and, more recently, the Broncos before joining the Giants' practice squad toward the end of last season. He is getting some reps with the first team while Odell Beckham Jr. remains sidelined.

Remaining OTAs: May 29-31, June 4-7. Mandatory Minicamp is June 12-14.
