Nick Williams is in his third season with the Giants and his first as a quality control/special teams coach. He spent the 2021 season as an offensive quality control coach and was an offensive assistant in his first year as an NFL coach in 2020.
Prior to joining the Giants, Williams spent three seasons as the wide receivers coach at Southern Illinois University. He also served as the program's liaison with NFL teams.
In 2019, sophomore transfer Avante Cox, who caught six passes in two seasons at the University of Wyoming, led the 7-5 Salukis with 47 receptions, 617 yards and five touchdown catches. Cox was named second-team All-Missouri Valley Conference and to the league's all-newcomer team.
The previous season, SIU's offense featured one of the league's top wideouts in Raphael Leonard, who led the team with 57 catches for 847 yards and 7 TDs. After the season, he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In Williams' first season at Southern Illinois in 2017, his receiving corps scored 18 touchdowns, led by junior Darrell James, who had 47 catches for 773 yards and eight scores. James earned all-conference honors.
Williams began his coaching career a volunteer offensive analyst in 2012 under Nick Saban at the University of Alabama, his alma mater. He was responsible for wide receiver scrimmage production and organized and ran the scout team offense.
Williams spent the 2013 season as the offensive graduate assistant at Valdosta State.
He was the wide receivers coach at Jacksonville State from 2014-16, when the Gamecocks went 23-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference. In 2015, JSU spent 11 weeks at ranked No. 1 in the nation and lost the national championship game. Williams moved to SIU in 2017.
Williams' receiving corps at JSU set a school record with 3,102 receiving yards in 2015. Josh Barge was a first-team All-OVC wide receiver after hauling in 92 catches for 1,145 yards and 11 touchdowns, all school records.
Williams earned a spot on the Alabama football team as a walk-on and contributed as a wide receiver and on special teams. He helped the Crimson Tide win national championships in 2009, 2011 and 2012. Alabama was 49-5 and won two SEC titles during his playing career. Williams graduated from Alabama with a degree in business management.
Williams' father, Bobby Williams, is a longtime coach, who served as Alabama's tight ends and special teams coordinator when Nick played for the Crimson Tide. Giants running backs coach Burton Burns was also on staff during 2009-12 seasons. From 2000-02, Bobby Williams was head coach at Michigan State (succeeding Saban) and when he was the Miami Dolphins' running coach under Saban in 2005-06 he worked with Giants coaches Jason Garrett and Derek Dooley. Bobby Williams is currently the tight ends coach and special teams coordinator at the University of Oregon.
