Chad Klunder is in his second season as the Giants' scouting coordinator.
Klunder spent the 2018-19 season working under Pro Football Hall of Fame NFL executive, Bill Polian, as a football operations director in the Alliance of American Football. In conjunction with his time at the AAF, he was a consultant to the vice president and athletic director of the University of Notre Dame on football related matters.
Klunder previously spent 15 years at Notre Dame in several capacities. From 2013-2017, he served as the associate athletics director for football operations. His primary responsibility was administrative oversight of the football program: future game scheduling, football budget, hiring coaches and staff, team travel and facility planning/renovation of Notre Dame Stadium and the new indoor practice complex. He also served as a member of the Athletic Department Executive Committee, the College Football Playoff Advisory Committee and the University Bowl Oversight Committee.
From 2005-2012, Klunder was the director of football operations in charge of day-to-day scheduling and logistics. His oversight included athletic training, team video and equipment. Klunder planned, organized and executed all team activities and movements. He also directed the annual coaches' clinic and all summer football camps. Klunder began his career in 2003 as graduate assistant coach working with the Irish offense.
Before his time at Notre Dame, he served as running backs coach and coordinator of football operations at Harvard (1998-2002). During his tenure at Harvard, Klunder's running backs led the Ivy League in rushing on three occasions. He coached three all-Ivy League players, including Harvard's all-time leading rusher. The 2001 team finished 9-0 in the Ivy League and was the first Harvard team to go unbeaten and untied in conference play since 1913.
Klunder also served as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Minnesota in 1997 after beginning his career as a graduate assistant coach in 1995-96 at St. Cloud State, where he coached running backs.
A native of Waverly, Iowa, Klunder played defensive back at Wartburg College. He started every game of his career, was twice a unanimous all-league pick and gained All-America recognition. He served as a Wartburg co-captain in 1994, when his team advanced to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals.
Klunder received a degree in sports management from Wartburg in 1995 and has done master's degree coursework at St. Cloud State, Minnesota and Notre Dame.
Klunder and his wife Lisa have one daughter, Allyson.
