The Giants announced they have picked up the fifth-year option on WR Odell Beckham Jr.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - The Giants this week picked up the fifth-year option on the contract of Odell Beckham, Jr. their 2014 first-round draft choice who is one of the NFL's very best wide receivers.
In each of his first three seasons, Beckham led the Giants in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown catches, and was selected to the Pro Bowl.
He is the first Giants player to make the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons since Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor from 1981-83.
In 2016, Beckham, played all 16 games for the first time and finished with 101 catches for 1,367 yards and 10 touchdowns. The 101 receptions was the third-highest total in the NFL and is the second-highest total in Giants' history, behind Steve Smith's 107 receptions in 2009. Beckham, who caught 91 and 96 passes in his first two seasons, has three of the four highest single-season totals in franchise history.
Beckham's 1,367 receiving yards were also third in the league, the second-highest total of his career and the third highest in Giants history. Victor Cruz set the franchise record with 1,536 yards in 2011, and Beckham had 1,450 in 2015. Beckham has two of the top three, and three of the top five, single-season receiving yardage totals in Giants history.
Beckham had 10 touchdown receptions, which placed him fifth in the NFL (two receivers had 14 and two had 12), but was the lowest total of his three-year career (he had 13 in 2015 and 12 as a rookie).
Beckham's career totals are 288 receptions, 4,122 yards and 35 touchdowns, all of which shatter the previous franchise records for a player in his first three seasons (Beckham had the three-year touchdown receptions record with 25 – in his first two seasons).
Beckham and Miami's Jarvis Landry – his good friend and former LSU teammate – share the NFL record for the most receptions in the first three seasons of a career with 288 each. Cincinnati's A.J. Green held the former mark with 260 from 2011-13.
Beckham was the 12th overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft.
