CB Janoris Jenkins waived/injured by Giants

JANORIS-JENKINS

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Giants announced this morning that cornerback Janoris Jenkins has been waived/injured.

Jenkins injured his ankle in the Giants' loss Monday night in Philadelphia and has not practiced this week.

On Wednesday, while he was rehabbing the injury inside the Quest Diagnostics Training Center during practice, Jenkins engaged in an inappropriate Twitter exchange with a fan.

"This was an organizational decision," coach Pat Shurmur said. "From ownership to management to our football operations, we felt it was in the best interests of the franchise and the player. Obviously, what happened this week, and the refusal to acknowledge the inappropriate and offensive language, was the determining factor."

Jenkins started every game since the beginning of the 2018 season, a streak that reached 29 in a row vs. the Eagles. This year, he leads the team with 14 passes defensed and is sixth with 54 tackles (48 solo). Jenkins joined the Giants as a free agent in 2016.

Without Jenkins, the Giants will lean on their group of young cornerbacks, including rookies Julian Love, DeAndre Baker and Corey Ballentine, first-year pro Sam Beal, second-year veteran Grant Haley and veteran Antonio Hamilton.
