Hawkins was a football and track standout at Temple High School before staying in-state to play two years at Trinity Valley Community College. He transferred to Old Dominion before the 2020 season, but the school did not play due to COVID-19 concerns. Hawkins started all 25 games for the Monarchs over the next two years, racking up 76 tackles (four for loss) and six pass breakups in 13 games in 2021 and then intercepting two passes, breaking up six others, posting 57 stops, blocking a kick, and forcing two fumbles in 12 starts last fall. -- by Chad Reuter

Riley starred at Riverside High School in North Carolina and then moved to Chapel Hill to play for UNC. He played in five games as a true freshman (six tackles). He did not play in 2018. Riley played at Garden City Community College in 2019 and then was signed by Nebraska, where he played as a reserve in six games in 2020 (one tackle) and 10 games the next fall (seven tackles, one for loss). The move to Oregon for his final college season paid off, as he started all 13 contests and posted a career-high 21 tackles (1.5 for loss). -- by Chad Reuter
Owens began his collegiate career at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, where he earned first-team Junior College All-American honors in 2018 (51 tackles, three INTs, three pass breakups). The Moore, Oklahoma, native signed with Houston for 2019, starting 11 of 12 games played (54 tackles, one interception, five pass breakups) and blocking two kicks. Owens started five of eight appearances in 2020 (28 tackles, two pass breakups) before becoming a team leader on defense in 2021, garnering first-team All-American Athletic Conference accolades (52 tackles, four for loss, two interceptions -- one returned for a score -- and three pass breakups in 14 games, 13 starts).
