20 Questions: Better than last year?

**

Question 20: Are the Giants a better team now than at this point last year?**

MICHAEL EISEN: I confidently say yes, if for no other reason than the offensive line appears to be stronger thanks to the four free agent acquisitions, the anticipated return of Chris Snee and Will Beatty and the continued improvement of Justin Pugh, who was impressive in starting all 16 games as a rookie last year. With Rashad Jennings and the expected return of David Wilson, the Giants have a deeper and more talented backfield. The return game, with Quintin Demps, Trindon Holliday and Odell Beckham Jr. – should be significantly improved. Jason Pierre-Paul is healthy and ready to resume terrorizing quarterbacks and second-year linemen Johnathan Hankins and Damontre Moore should contribute more regularly. The Giants added a shutdown corner in Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Stevie Brown is back at safety. So, yes, on paper the Giants are better. But games aren't won on paper. This Giants team must do it on the field.

JOHN SCHMEELK: This is a tough question to answer. At this point last year I thought Beatty would play well, Nicks would have a bounce-back year, JPP would start sacking QB's like it was 2011 and David Wilson would be a big part of the running game. What do I think now that will turn out not to be true? I just don't know. I will say "yes" because I know the offensive line is better, and the secondary should be improved.

DAN SALOMONE: Add up all the new faces and subtract the old ones, and I think you have a net gain. So I'm saying yes, they are better than a year ago. They clearly knew their problems, and they addressed them and have faith in players to step up in the areas they did not. Other than the talent level, I think the new blood will also serve this team well.
