Odell Beckham Jr. can add one more line to his already impressive résumé: the EA Sports Madden cover.
As voted by fans, the Giants' wide receiver and reigning AP Offensive Rookie of the Year will grace the cover of the popular video game for the 2016 edition.
The LSU product edged out tight end Rob Gronkowski of the defending Super Bowl champion Patriots after the two made their final cases today live on ESPN.
The voting originally began with four nominees: Beckham, Gronkowski, Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown and Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson.
Here are three reasons why fans voted for Beckham:
1. "The Catch"
If making one of the most impressive catches that has been captured in the history of the game wasn't enough, doing so on primetime television created the perfect chemistry to launch Beckham into another stratosphere.
Such were the ingredients on Nov. 23 of last year at MetLife Stadium when the catch against the rival Cowboys generated social media reactions from sports icons to Hollywood stars and Pulitzer Prize-winning authors. And that was only the beginning.
2. He's more than "The Catch"
Beckham was far from a one-hit wonder as "The Catch" was just part of his story. After missing the first four games, he went on to catch 12 touchdowns in 12 games and tied the NFL record with nine consecutive games of at least 90 receiving yards.
If you projected his pace to an entire 16-game schedule, he would have caught 121 passes for 1,740 yards and 16 touchdowns.
- His future.**
Giants president and chief executive officer John Mara isn't one to make bold proclamations casually. So it carried weight when he compared Beckham's potential to one of the greatest to play the game, Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor.
"For me, you would have to go back to 1981 before we were that excited about a rookie coming in and what he could possibly mean to this franchise," Mara said at the end of last season, referencing the year the Giants drafted Taylor.
"I hesitate to say that because I do not want to put that much pressure on him, but he certainly has brought a lot to this organization."
